Nancy Pelosi holds news conference after Democrats take the House - live updates

Source: CBS

November 7, 2018, 1:29 PM

..................................

"The biggest winner yesterday was health care for the American people, for our seniors, and for American families," Pelosi said. While President Trump and Republicans had pivoted to focusing on immigration in the final weeks of the campaign, Democrats stuck firmly to health care-related talking points. "We won because from the beginning we focused on health care," she said.

Pelosi – who could again be speaker of the House – told supporters in Washington late Tuesday that Democrats would use their majority to focus on issues like health care and draining the "swamp" of special interests and dark money. She did not focus on potential Democratic investigations of President Trump and instead struck a bipartisan note.

Though Democrats would provide new checks and balances on Mr. Trump, Pelosi promised to strive for bipartisanship and work with Republicans to "lower the cost of health care, of prescription drugs, raise wages, and clean up corruption to work for all Americans."

"We have all had enough of division," she said Tuesday night. "Americans want peace. They want results."

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Sadly... I'm already seeing nitpicking posts and petty critiques of her and what she had to say in this news conference. It's the same formula over and over. "I like her, BUT..." or "She's done good work in the past, BUT..." or "I'm not saying she's old, BUT..."

Apparently there are many who believe it's okay to smear Nancy Pelosi as long as there's a (semi)compliment at the beginning, followed by "but".

This shit pisses me off.

Some leadership qualities, huh.

Yelling criticisms about Pelosi into a mic isn't proof he can even do the job.. judging by conditions in his own State of Ohio Tim Ryan doesn't have a whole lot of influence necessary to go against the conniving GOP.

We need someone with a proven track record.
Yelling criticisms into a mic about Pelosi doesn't count either.

You'd think they'd have learned that lesson with Hillary.
Yelling into a mic isn't a qualification as to your ability to lead.

Elected African American out of Mass. refuse to say if she backed Pelosi. Alexandria Cortez newly elected woman of color also refuses to say if she'll back Pelosi. This isn't just coming out of nowhere. Young people don't want more of the same. What we heard yesterday was uninspiring and didn't seem like we were ready for the fight of our life. It wasn't nitpicking. This has nothing to do with Nancy being a woman. I don't care if Repbulicans hate her, mores the better. What I care about is winning against this mad dog in the the White House. If Nancy is going to cow tow because she is afraid to inflame the right, I want no part of that.

We have the majority in the House, pass a Bill to lower the Medicare age to 60. Let the Senate vote it down or sit on it.

Keep passing Bills until Republicans have to join with us, that's what I call bipartisanship.

Follow up by giving stump speeches. In fact, I hope her, or whomever will be our Speaker will get out there and give a counter speech, do a counter campaign rally, put out a counter message every single time the Senate votes one down, Rump Vetoes, or every time Rumpus has a Rally, we need leadership giving one of our own, and get it out there on the news.

Fire with fire i say.

It is time to take back the country and the opposition has no interest in that and will take advantage of anything they can get. We lost most all elections in Ohio because the Democrats here have no balls! Much too polite. I am sick about what will continue to happen here.

Talk of bipartisanship is all well and good, but is she going to "keep her powder dry" in anticipation of the Republicans being nice and cooperative? (Ha!)

Or is she going to come out of the gate putting the fear of God and accountability into them?

Or, is she going to actively work -against- Dems that want to start investigations, subpoenas, and committee hearings?

But, let's give her a chance...

However, I swear, if I hear -anyone- in charge saying "we have to move forward, not look backward"...
