Putin's popularity plunges as Russian voters rage over pension reforms

Source: CBC

Jonathon Gatehouse · CBC News · Posted: Nov 22, 2018 2:10 PM ET

Vladimir Putin's popularity is plummeting as Russian voters rage over government pension reforms.

A new poll, published today by the independent Levada Center, finds the Russian president's approval rating at 56 per cent, a five-year low. And the survey makes it clear that the public is increasingly unhappy with the direction the country is heading in.

Sixty-one per cent of respondents told Levada that they hold Putin "fully" responsible for Russia's problems, with another 22 per cent saying the president is "somewhat" to blame.

If an election were held today, just 40 per cent said they would cast a ballot for the man who has led them since 1999.

how Obama's Sanctions are working. This was baked into the cake on Oil Prices and Putin's ability to obtain certain drilling Technology. Putin needed one and half Trillion Petro Dollars by the end of this month in order to stave off a economic nightmare and the possibility of a citizen .

Puti is in effect neutered and the uprising is about to begin.

this is playing into Trump's behavior pattern lately. Donnie hears the footsteps of accountability thundering in his direction and it is scaring the crap out of him. He has never before had to deal with this due to the Russian Mob covering for him.

Next week I will be watching the Nymex on Sunday night for clues as to what to expect by years end. That will either accelerate Putin's demise or just delay it for a few months. History deals Russian rulers no quarter.

What would be the consequences of a massive US retaliation along the lines that they used (are still using) on us in the last 3/4 years?

Oligarchs dethroned, their resistance strenghtened, their Military under more stable / less oportuniustic control . . .

Lets hope so.

I don’t let the Russian people off the hook at all. Sure, some hate the man, but the majority do not. Anecdotally, I travel internationally with some frequency and I’ve seen quite a few unpleasant Russians in those settings, most recently last month in Germany. Fucking obnoxious, even more so than the “ugly American” which is also quite real.

As a nation, they have always had a kind of inferiority complex vs. the West. Tsar Peter the Great took this on by visiting the west, learning from it, inviting western Europeans to come to Russia to help "modernize" it--to the extent that you could modernize things in 1720. As with Germany after World War I, people giving the ordinary citizen pride in his nationality, even it wasn't justified, were heroes. Bad economic times were always the fault of outsiders (Germany after WW I actually WAS this, making them particularly receptive to Hitler's rhetoric). A classmate of my younger daughter's once said the worst thing the Nazis did to her, born 40 years after their defeat, was to take away her right to have pride in her nationality. Putin isn't interested in learning anything except stealing technology and money, and outsmarting the west for the pure joy of it. Russia has an incredibly rich cultural wealth of art, music and literature. That's enough for him.
