Trump is right, Europe is wrong, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared in a speech in Brussels Tuesday.
Pompeo, who was in Europe to attend a meeting for NATO foreign ministers, said U.S. President Donald Trump was putting Americas interests ahead of the international order but insisted that Washington was acting to the benefit of the entire world.
We won the Cold War. We won the peace, Pompeo declared, citing the late President George H.W. Bushs role in the reunification of Germany. This is the type of leadership that President Trump is boldly reasserting. The secretary of state also took repeated jabs at bureaucrats a frontal assault in a city that employs tens of thousands of government functionaries.
Aside from two brief heckles, the audience responded with silence.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump is building a new world order upheld by American leadership and democracy, his secretary of state told diplomats at an event in Brussels on Tuesday, blaming Iran and China for instability in the world.
In the finest traditions of our great democracy, we are rallying the noble nations to build a new liberal order that prevents war and achieves greater prosperity, Mike Pompeo said in a foreign policy speech.
Under President Trump, we are not abandoning international leadership or our friends in the international system, he said.
Pompeo criticized Iran and China in his speech, rejecting suggestions that Washington was acting unilaterally.

HAH! My autocorrect kept wanting to make it Pompeo!

(45,001 posts)That was like a bazillion years ago. What's Pompeo doing today to contain a Russian expansion? And he wants to build a 'liberal order' ? Has he heard of NATO or the United Nations? Perhaps he should spend less time whining and tearing those alliance apart. What a-holes.

(4,341 posts)What gives? It is amazing that such an educated man belittles himself to become a tool to an amoral con man, that he happily brown-noses his boss. How do his children see him? Is he their hero?
I keep breaking my head about people like this.
A couple of days ago I bought a couple of books that on the cover seem very interesting (never judge a book by its cover, I know...) it looked like someone had done deep research on the history of our country and maybe uncovered some information worth learning about. One of the books is called "The Politically Incorrect Guide to: The Founding Fathers, The greatest generation in American History", by Brion McClanahan, Ph.D. (that is how they write it on the cover).
Anyway, it looked intriguing, I figured I would read about some well researched information that may be worth learning, but when I start reading the introduction it is like the guy could not wait to blame the "Left" (that is how he writes it, capitalized) for all the distortions in our history. Interesting to say that he admits about Nixon's corruption and insecurity right there in the introduction after he blames the "Left".
I am glad I only paid $2.00 (new books, not used) for those books. I have thrown them in the trash because I don't think anyone will learn anything useful from this guy. He is the same guy who was interviewed, I have to think before the election, and said that "Donald Trump was what the founding fathers always thought a president should be, and that he would have their full support." Something to that effect.
It is interesting to note that on his tweeter it looks like a one-man conversation, it seems he tweets himself over and over, and once in a while some "literate" will make some anti-Democratic remark. He has a tweet saying something like that "Matt Whitaker is against Muller, we are winning!!" So winning is ignoring the truth for the sake of a corrupt party. Anyway...I guess I am upset I threw $4.00 in the trash, I know its not a lot, but nonetheless, I would have enjoyed reading real research of our history.
