Schiff: Trump may face 'real prospect of jail time'

Source: The Hill

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on Sunday said that President Trump might "face the real prospect of jail time" after prosecutors indicated last week that he directed illegal payments during his 2016 presidential campaign.

"There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him. That he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time," he said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

@AdamSchiff on the Russia Investigation: "My takeaway is there's a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office the justice department may indict him. That he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time."

Remember that the Supreme Court will want to protect its own legitimacy in the post-Trump era. If they protect an obvious criminal, they will diminish their own authority. That seems unlikely, even for the most partisan jurists.

Have a little optimism. It feels good to see the developments where Trump is getting cornered. It will be a glorious moment when he's trapped.

If so, that implies guilt and a federal absolution. In the current layout, Pence _might_ pardon the orange thing.

If not, that means dump can't pardon himself.

Isn't it fun being in a time when "normal" procedures and policies don't apply? (rhetorical question.)

It's so hard to keep all the intrigues and scandals in memory over 50-60-70 years. Not involved in any of these activities but working in the Pentagon and running into Weinberger/others in hallways.

It seems that justice can be bent for those that have some special juice - not for 99.9% of us.

6. Trump's base is weakening over Mueller issue
Sun Dec 9, 2018, 01:28 PM
Dec 2018

As we know, the Trump base primarily is older, less educated, rural, truckers, Midwest grange hall types, former enlisted Marines (Air Force alums don't wear those hats, for example) and prefer the color red. As this news continues to roll in, some of them will soften but if Access Hollywood is any indicator. most will stand firm for now. Why? The real reason is embarrassment and, of course, ignorance to facts and other opinions. When you go to the local cafe in a small Midwest town or a truck stop in Florida or even a Senior Center in Texas, the usual banter supports your cause. I was once asked by a MAGA imbecile (see IQ scale) why I was a Democrat and I responded "Because I went to college and got something out of it." Silence. Adam Schiff is correct but how long will it take to get him out of the White House remains the question. My answer? Nothing lasts forever.

He has about a 35% approval with his "base". And that's about the number of baked-in perennial GOP supporters in general who would never vote for anyone other than a rethug (if they bother to vote at all).

I want to see him impeached, convicted and indicted by the justice system. I'm far from convinced that's going to happen. Especially the part about the senate convicting him. I believe the best hope we have for the future would be for Mueller just open the floodgate of his illegalities to him and the public and telling him what his realistic expectations are to stay out of one of multiple possible prison terms. At that point, he could offer up a plea deal which might include the bargain that he will not recommend prosecution on federal crimes if he agrees to resign from office. I don't know whether that's a likely scenario or not, but if it appears that the noose is further tightening around his bloated neck, several rethugs in congress may appeal to him (or to any of his tight circle on his behalf), who confront him with resignation or prosecution. I just can't foresee an actual end-game at this time.

Someone needs to speak out and confront the Republican lie machine. As for double jeopardy concerns, I don't see the state crimes, e.g., the bogus foundation crimes, being indicted on the federal level, so there would be no double jeopardy. The truth is that at some point, Trump is toast and he knows it.

17. So GOP What About "Law and Order"?
Sun Dec 9, 2018, 02:47 PM
Dec 2018

I believe he must be impeached and there needs to be a follow-up. Trump and his dynasty need to be made an example. We cannot "congratulate" ourselves after the removal of Trump because the disease is not fully removed.

1. What would have happened if the Democrats did not win the 2018 election and/or it was tampered with by Putin?

2. Alternative Facts and Birther Donny Epistemology have embedded themselves in the American right wing.

3. The behavior of the GOP 2016 House of Reps must be investigated. Folks remember when Michelle Bachmann wanted an investigation of the House for being "UnAmerican"? Trump is the legacy of Obama's tepid response to the LIES of "Birtherism" and "death panels". Trump is the legacy of "Silly Season". By the way Fox News, where are the Death Panels? By the way CNN and MSNBC why are you not slamming FoxNews day and night for giving voice to these lies? - Yet we wonder why we got Trump? Trump is the legacy of not standing up to the lies!

4. If Trump is removed we will have Mike Pence - oh great! But I doubt he can rally the Trump base concerning offshoring of jobs so perhaps he would lose in 2020.

5. We CELEBRATE STUPIDITY in America. With FoxNews and "alternative fact epistemology" still running rampant. Trump must go to jail as the next Trump may have "focus", and "more self-discipline" than Trump.

6. Which is worse: The open attacks on our democracy and rule of law by Trump OR The excuse making by Republicans. Add to that a third factor: Democrats not shouting from the roof top.

7. Trump and his dynasty if convicted must go to jail. Just imagine if Obama was "pals" with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and a FoxNews journalist where killed and sliced up?

8. The stupidity of WORSHIPPING the rich will still continue. That is why Trump must go to jail.

9. Could this corruption extend beyond Trump to Mitch McConnel and Ruddy Guilliani?

LOCK HIM UP! But no we will "turn the page". God help America
