GOP lawmakers call for autopsy on 'historic losses'
Source: The Hill
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is calling on incoming House GOP campaigns chief Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) and the rest of the leadership team to conduct an autopsy to find out what went wrong for Republicans in the disastrous 2018 midterms.
In a Dear Colleague letter obtained by The Hill, Stefanik and other allies wrote Monday that the disappointing results of the November election require an honest, transparent assessment of the structural operations and decision-making process that led to our party losing an historic number of seats.
The GOP, the lawmakers wrote, lost a number of seats in suburban and other areas that traditionally have backed Republican candidates. The number of female House Republicans will drop from 23 to just 13 next year.
We fell short across multiple demographics, including women, who represent a growing segment of Americas voting population, Stefanik and others wrote. Minimizing or ignoring the root causes behind these historic losses will lead us to repeat them.

(9,291 posts)Your party is corrupt, and we can see it. We no longer trust you're working for the voters you claim to represent. Also too many Russians, we remember duck and cover. If that is too long ago, then we watched the Americans on tv.
You can't win unless you cheat. It bothers us as humans. We can all bear to lose every now and then, but to cheat to win? Some of us are still ethical, and we taught our children not to behave like that.
You need to clean out your litter box and attempt to be the Republicans of old. Stop wasting taxpayers money on B.S. emails. Stop trying to take away our health care. Tax people who have enough in a fair way. We also don't like your racist attitudes, we also teach out kids not to judge people so superficial. Did you know our children's teachers are black, brown and all varieties of religions? Words do hurt people, we don't want our families hurt.
We want our family members to join society, not to stand alone.

(26,290 posts)nominating and running more bigoted assholes than they did in the past isnt it a waste of time and money to do another one which they will then just ignore?

(5,801 posts)just saved the GOPee millions on consultants!
Seriously, why bother when they will pay just as little heed to the findings as the previous "autopsy"?
Billionaire $$$$$ funding propaganda is the only thing keeping the GOPee viable. Unfortunately, the propaganda works reliably on about 1/3 of the population, which together with cheating is enough to keep the corpse propped upright.

"Sir? What if we try some new policy ideas that are actually popular with the voters?"
"You are so fired."

(1,603 posts)The problem for Stefanik and GOP is they are phonies and everybody sees it. In their hearts they and their supporters know it too. Hell, even this apparent soul-searching is disingenuous; it's just more PR, a feeble attempt to appear earnest/contrite. But it's BS. They tried this crap after 2012, issued their little report about demographics and inclusiveness etc... By next cycle they were more firmly under the racist boot of their deplorable base than they'd been in decades.
The truth is the GOP can't afford real soul-searching and the notion of an honest GOP post-election "autopsy" is laughable. They can't and won't.
Sure, they'll trot out out some "new" PR strategy about "reaching new voters" that'll fizzle quickly as bandaid fixes do. What it won't be is an honest assessment of the underlying issues that have basically destroyed their party ... (for specifics see all the posts above.)
PR won't fix phony over the long haul, it's not sustainable.

(12,585 posts)After nearly a year of what passes for introspection in the GOP, they concluded that it wasn't their sucky ideas that were the problem, it was that they weren't using the right words to sell them to the voters.
They don't realize it's their fundamental principle -- protect the rich and screw everyone else -- that people aren't buying. Even Trump voters are starting to see the truth (barely).
If they think 2018 was a catastrophe, wait until they see what happens if the nominate Trump for a second term in 2020. It'll be a bloodbath!
That is, if the Dems don't screw it up by focusing on investigations and not the needs of the voters.
