Comedian Pete Davidson worried fans Saturday when he posted a message to Instagram saying, in part, "I really don't want to be on this Earth anymore," before deleting his account altogether. .... The 25-year-old Saturday Night Live performer posted what appeared to be a screenshot of text written in the iPhone "Notes" app with the following message Saturday afternoon:
"i really don't want to be on this earth anymore. i'm doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don't know how much longer i can last. all i ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so."
The post drew messages of concern and support from his fans. "Pete you can get through this. This too shall pass," wrote one Instagram user, @sunshine8377. "I love you man and I don't want you to ever consider ending your life. I wish my comment mattered," wrote another user, @kpierrephoto.
Davidson later deleted his Instagram account.

I'm not a big fan of Pete Davidson. His act was worn out a long time ago. Nonetheless, I do hope that this post of his is not an indication that he has gone and done something. That's one serious-looking message, though.

Damn. Just damn. Depression can strike anyone -- rich or poor, famous or not. Pete Davidson is a funny young comedian who has gone through some shit this year -- and his apology to @DanCrenshawTX was all class and one for the ages. Hope his friends & family are reaching out to him.

(18,628 posts)I ask my self two questions: Did I learn something I may not hear otherwise? and is it credible?.
I also don't base a rec on whether a post has good or bad news. A rec doesn't mean I'm happy to read the post. Having said that, K&R.

(18,628 posts)That'd certainly be the most bizarre SNL departure ever. Hold my beer, Norm McDonald and Sinead O'Connor.

(32,639 posts)They pre-tape the show, on Saturday Night but at least an hour before the real air-time. Occasionally they have to edit something out and there is time to do that before 11:30 p.m.
That said I really don't believe Davidson or any other SNL player would attempt something like you suggest. They all have a high regard for the show, even the players who only get occasional work from it. He's had drug and rehab problems before and this really sounds like a cry for help. I hope he gets the help he needs.

(18,628 posts)You made me wonder if that's still true so I did some research. Of course it's a delay for the west coast, but the show starts at 11:29:30. Central time zones view it at 10:30.
Despite the claims that it's still a live show there may be a few minutes tape delay since I don't think I see it until around 11:35. Thanks Norm. That might also be my local station's delay with some hapless engineer waiting by a dump button.
It's certainly not taped at an earlier hour and I've seen recent incidents (this year) of the word fuck that weren't edited out.

(806 posts)idea of which sketches should be cut or promoted/demoted (i.e. airing before Weekend Update or after) for the broadcast - but the final show is broadcast live in the Eastern and Central time zones.

(32,639 posts)In a few instances they've had to use the pre-taped version of something and "pre-empt" the live version when something went wrong. They don't do it very often though. It's just a last minute fall back when it's "holy shit what do we do now?" time. I posted my earlier response when somebody suggested that Davidson might commit suicide live on the air if he's despondent enough. My point was that it would never go on the air, and also he'd never try it.

(205,320 posts)When I was in my 20s, I knew two guys - also 20s - who committed suicide. Obviously, it devastated family and friends. And I often think how much their lives would have changed by the time they reached the age they would be now.
