GoFundMe For 'Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall' Raises $63k in One Day

Source: The HILL Reporter

.
After retired USAF vet Brian Kolfage Jr. launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $1 billion to build Trump’s Wall on our Southern border, not everyone was happy. Regardless of your views towards the wall, Kolfage, a triple amputee, certainly appears to have captured the hearts and minds of thousands of Americans. In fact, he has raised over $10 million from over 179,000 individuals in just four days.

Now, a rival GoFundMe campaign has popped up, and it’s certainly not going to make some people happy. In fact, there are already criticisms that it may be illegal or at least against the GoFundMe terms of service.

The campaign, titled ‘Ladders to Get Over Trump’s Wall,’ has already raised $63,000 from more that 2,800 people and it’s only been active for one day.

If you are already angry at this idea, you may want to reconsider, as this campaign appears to have a good cause. Those behind it realize that they will never meet their $100 million goal and neither will Kolfage’s campaign to raise $1 billion to build the wall. Therefore, those behind the campaign, including a woman named Charlotte Clymer, have instead pledged to donate all proceeds to RAICES, a Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Service. RAICES, based in San Antonio Texas, promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees.

kidding aside, this one is actually a great gofundme cause.

From right next door in New Mexico, which is MUCH more friendly to immigrants than Texas, I already have evidence that the tRump Wall and ALL fools, who support it are liars and hypocrites. This totally ineffective wall will cost trillions to build and maintain, while proving to be FAR less effective than the heavily guarded "wall" already built along the California border. Stop talking about small-change and dig deep US Taxpayers! Teflon Don said Mexico would pay for this stupid wall, anyway, because he plans to be the general contractor for this wall. tRump went bankrupt on most of his construction projects, to cheat subcontractors.

the wall would be paid for. They were talking about the GoFundMe for his wall. They were seriously excited with this brilliant idea.

Good...charge each one of them an extra $80 or they do not get any govt benefits and are fined on their taxes. They should be more than happy to cough it up. Throw in a MAGA hat (and charge an additional $20 to make it an even $100). Put their money where their racist, hypocritical mouths are!

Most come over on what amounts to a tourist visa and just never go back. Only the desperately poor cross the border way out in the back country. There's a stream of people going back and forth at every crossing, every day to shop, visit friends and relatives, whatever. So unless they build something along the lines of the Berlin wall and shoot anyone who climbs it, this whole discussion is nothing but theater meant for the dumb ass masses of Americans. And I mean a total and complete shutdown of any movement whatsoever across the border, like that's ever going to happen, wall or no wall. I'm not sure if shitler himself really understands that. Many of his magats don't, but then again, tying their shoes is a toughy for them.

As long as there are employers who will hire them, the flow of "illegals" will continue. If the GOP really wanted to get serious about illegal immigration, they would come down HARD on employers who hire undocumented workers. But they will not do that because, among other things, we have to eat. OVER HALF of all farm workers are undocumented. We simply can't do without them. The system we have now is messed up, but if you eat, you support illegal immigration.

or "legal" immigrants want to do that kind of work. They also don't want to work in slaughterhouses, because being around blood, guts and shit every day is a drag, plus the general unpleasantness of having to kill hundreds of animals. Immigrants, whether legal or illegal, do the work that citizens don't want to do and it's been that way for over a hundred years. Frankly, they've always been treated badly, even though we need them.

It's highly unlikely to reach 100 mil, and it's even MORE unlikely that the Trumpistas are going to raise billions for the wall via the platform.

So this is satire being used to raise money for a legitimate 501(c)(3).

If you have issues with it, feel free to report it to GFM.

(I fol Charlotte on Twitter so I saw this start, and have seen the horrible comments people have sent, but kinda surprised to see someone here seemingly arguing that satire is a crime or a GFM violation.)

... they saw it notate exactly where the money is expected to go, and see that the campaign states in it's description: "This GoFundMe isn’t really about ladders at all. It’s about lifting people up."

And if it really was an issue, they would have shut it down. I noticed there wasn't a mandatory platform fee anymore, so they don't automatically make 5% of whatever they raise anymore -- so they have far less motivation to just let silly campaigns, or campaigns that violate their rules, generate hundreds of thousands without doing anything about it anymore.

We saw some folks are raising money for a border wall to keep out our migrant siblings and fellow human beings, who are fleeing violence and persecution and whose tragically-underpaid labor is essential to the U.S. economy. Seems like a bad idea on countless levels for everyone involved. Maybe we should focus on human rights and creating a community that reflects our supposed values.

And even though at a rate of $1.7 million daily, it would take their fund about 35 years to raise the $21.7 billion that Trump's own Dept. of Homeland Security says would be needed to build said wall, we wanna make sure ladders are ready to send over to our undocumented friends and help them.

<<<snip>>>

Should we not reach our goal--or should they (ahem) not reach theirs--all funds raised will go to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES) , a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees.

You see, they’ll never reach their goal, but no matter how much we raise, we’re going to reach ours:
Supporting an organization working to help immigrants seeking legal asylum. This GoFundMe isn’t really about ladders at all. It’s about lifting people up.

https://www.gofundme.com/ladders-to-get-over-trump039s-wall

the term "Ladders" used in the title of their account can be interpreted to mean any assistance to help these immigrants apply for asylum.
