(Chicago) Teacher contract talks appear done for night as strike looms
Source: Sun Times
A Chicago teachers strike loomed Sunday night as the president of the School Board emerged from talks and said: We assume were basically done for today.
At this juncture, its clearly their decision, President David Vitale said.
At 9:30 p.m., Vitale said hed been trying to negotiate directly with Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis for the past several hours but had been unable to do so.
The union has called a press conference for 10 p.m. Sunday night, two hours before its members are set to strike. The strike could possibly be called off in the middle of the night, however, before any actual school time is lost.
