In Oakland speech, Kamala Harris launches White House bid with scathing assault on Trump

Kamala Harris formally launched her Democratic bid for president on Sunday with a blunt-force assault on President Trump and a promise to unify a country deeply riven along social, cultural and political lines.

Speaking from the steps of Oakland's flag-bedecked City Hall plaza, to a crowd that spilled over several downtown blocks, Harris depicted her candidacy as a fight against those "trying to sow hate and division."

"We are here at this moment in this because we must answer a fundamental question," Harris said. "Who are we? Who are we as Americans? So let's answer that question, America. We are better than this."

Though Harris never mentioned Trump by name, it was abundantly clearly to whom she referred as she painted a damning portrayal of the president and his actions.

Here is the part of @KamalaHarris' speech that moved me the most and why I think she would be a formidable candidate to not only take on Donald Trump, but to beat him. #KamalaHarris2020 #ForThePeople

....that was beating it after every sentence. It was detracting from the speech.

As for the speech itself, it gave me goose bumps. One of the more stirring announcement speeches I've ever seen. And the "Ka-ma-la" in the background was reminiscent of "O-ba-ma"!

Great way to get started.

This is almost exactly what I say to the so-called Christians that I know who support the horrible Republican agenda:

"Who are we? Who are we as Americans? So let's answer that question, America. We are better than this."

I think she needs to pay her dues. I would rather she wait. I think Elizabeth Warren has earned the right to be the dem candidate.
I won't vote for Harris in the primary.

I also have a grudge against her that I need to get over. She was suppose to give the commencement address at Cal last May when my son graduated. She backed out a few days before and left Cal no time to get a suitable replacement. Maybe that is her style.

Those asserting that Trump fears her and that she could win are right, even if Schultz entered as an independent.
