Elizabeth Warren makes presidential campaign official
Source: MSN
LAWRENCE, Mass. US Senator Elizabeth Warren, the law professor turned firebrand of the progressive left, made her run for the presidency official on Saturday, laying out a populist vision for the change needed to right an economy gone wrong that imbued her longtime focus on inequality with new liberal tenants like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal.
Speaking on the steps of a hulking mill building, Warren kicked off her campaign with a history lesson about the immigrant women who had gone on strike inside more than a century ago to protest squalid labor conditions and dwindling pay, connecting themes of labor rights, immigration, and gender to her own campaign.
Like the women of Lawrence, we are here to say, Enough is enough, Warren said, according to her prepared speech text. We are here to take on a fight that will shape our lives, our childrens lives and our grandchildrens lives.
In her telling, that fight is not just about President Trump, whom she initially referred to simply as the man in the White House, shaming him, if not naming him, as an extreme symptom of a broken system.

(779 posts)As someone who is sick of Trump and his fixation on Warrens family history, I wonder why there is no attention being paid by the Trump family history, from the grandfather who was so bad he was thrown out of Germany and became a brothel keeper and petty criminal to a father who was a KKK member, slum lord and crooked, there are not many of us with such a family history of shame!

(8,200 posts)Unfortunately, regardless of our admiration for her, it is a major problem that isn't going to be easily overcome. Especially if Trump is the Republican candidate which seems likely unless he can be brought to justice.

(2,412 posts)Her speech was stunning in that she really understands the economic pain of working people and how the top 1% have benefitted over the last 40 years. The site of the Lawrence Millworkers Strike was a moving backdrop to her campaign. She is the best candidate I have seen in all my 70 years.

(24,695 posts)In this note to you, if you read it. I would like for you to know, there are thousands of human beings in this country that are Native and can not prove they are.
Why may you ask, because in some states for example, and other places where census records where kept some of those buildings were destroyed, by fire, storms, etc...or for that matter when the census was being applied some Natives, did not share there Heritage on the census forms because of the outright discrimination that was has been applied since the founding of this country.
When some child asks their mother who and where they came from, the (child) ask's about their family history it is a truthful history to find out what is told to them on their "heritage" that they are of Native heritage, or if they are not.
Some of it is done by word of mouth from the great great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and then mother to her children, because after all some of those census records don't exist, and Natives did not give the information to the government for various reasons, and to prove oneself through the litmus test to be recognized means exactly what?
That even if the oral history from the family is the most important for the family to have the information passed down, just like how Natives passed down there stories on the journey of life for the children to understand, and to continue that story of family...........................it is the truth that is being told to them.......................as it was told to you.....................I honestly believe that you did not intend to deceive anyone, and that is my litmus test for you..................you were and are being honest........................and I say, Wado to you..............Thank you

(12,533 posts)I think Biden is actually trumps biggest fear. Biden wont give a shit about his rudeness & everyone will love him shaking his head and smiling

(13,058 posts)I'm leaning to Biden, not because he has the best progressive credentials, but because he might have the best chance to beat Trump.

(17,387 posts)...with no downside, Warren will be more than fine. It is not like she voted no on Magnitsky Act, no on Russian sanctions in connection with 2016 election and ditched last months vote on lifting sanctions on a Russian oligarch.

(32,634 posts)I wish her well in the campaign, but I don't want to see her leave the Senate where she has been very effective. I hope the campaign doesn't break her spirit.
Best of luck to you, Elizabeth Warren!

(13,058 posts)I also respect her, but just imagine how effective she could be as president. Of course the downside is that Massachusetts has a Republican governor who would appoint her replacement if she resigned her Senate seat to become president.
