Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe told NBC News that the Gang of Eight, the congressional leaders regularly briefed by the executive branch on classified issues, did not object to the counterintelligence investigation into President Trump and his possible ties to Russia.
Said McCabe: Thats the important part here, no one objected. Not on legal grounds, not on constitutional grounds and not based on fact.

(12,904 posts)Of the day Chuck Grassley turned a terrifying shade of pale white, and couldnt talk to reporters in the basement of the Senate on live teevee. Feinstein had to do the talking.
And approval for the investigation from the gang of eight would have to have come much earlier than that day.
Things coming into focus?

(60,536 posts)Under normal conditions, the President of the United States is required by Title 50 U.S.C. § 3091(a)(1) to "ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States, including any significant anticipated intelligence activity as required by [the] title." However, under "extraordinary circumstances", when the President thinks "it is essential to limit access" to information about a covert action, 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2) allows the President to limit reporting to the Gang of Eight.
The individuals are sworn to secrecy and there is no vote process.[not verified in body]

(5,269 posts)McCabe in his interview with Natasha Bertrand and perhaps his book, said that the meeting actually included many more than just the gang of 8 where he and Rosenstein explained about the Trump investigations and McCabe knew Trump would find out everything very quickly due to Nunes and others who were present.
