Paul Manafort wants sentence 'significantly below' guidelines in Virginia

Source: The Washington Post

By Rachel Weiner March 1 at 5:21 PM

Paul Manafort asked a federal judge in Virginia to give him a prison term “significantly below” the 19 to 24 years called for under sentencing guidelines, calling that range “clearly disproportionate to” his crimes of bank and tax fraud.

This is the former Trump campaign chairman’s second bid for leniency as he faces sentencing in two cases prosecuted by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. He is set to be sentenced in Virginia at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The cases the “Special Counsel have brought against Mr. Manafort have devastated him personally, professionally, and financially,” his attorneys wrote in a filing Friday.

In Alexandria, Manafort, 69, was found guilty at trial of stashing the money he made as a lobbyist from Ukrainian oligarchs overseas to avoid taxes and then committing bank fraud to keep up a lavish lifestyle when his patrons lost power. Although jurors could not agree on 10 out of 18 charges, Manafort later admitted full culpability while pleading guilty to related crimes in D.C. federal court.

I heard some sympathetic chatter today on TV Cable News about how Manafort is getting old, a ruined man walking with a cane and how he is suffering. What about the suffering he caused to the American People. How about our feelings of dread and anger and sadness at the humiliating loss of our democracy!!! Manafort helped do this to millions of us while he blew fortunes on fancy clothes and cars. I don’t care!!!!! Lock him up!!!

don't do the crime if you can't do the time, I say. Plus, he got caught still lying afterwards (his plea, etc.).

Still lying, still cheating, won't learn obviously. Throw the book at him. Hard.

Life in prison. Without any chance of parole.

Don't like it? Then 30 years, plus another additional 25 years for each tax fraud.

Trump can't pardon that. And since those charges have already been announced, trump won't waste the capital to issue a pardon sinjce it could add a charge of obstruction to himself. Plus, trump doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself.

The only reason he will issue pardons is to cause pain to someone else. If he thinks it will piss us off, he might do it, but he won't do it to help mannafort.

Help himself, avoid harm to himself, cause harm to others. That is his decision tree.

"Daddy's got blood money" from his involvement in Ukraine. Fucking criminal of the highest order. No ostrich suit for you! Seriously, he had an ostrich suit. Aside from all the crimes, who the hell wears an ostrich suit?? Lady Gaga had a meat dress, but that was to make a statement, not just to impress? your fellow filthy rich a-hole friends.

Right before they get sentenced will prove to be a failed attempt of just another con job, and like is presently happening to Roger Stone, who will also be pleading for a break. They're learning they've dug their own hole working with trump .

I feel about the same about Manafort arguing for lesser sentance as I do about the dumbass who shot his own penis.

Poor thing.
