Trump welcomed the Football Championship Subdivision champions — the North Dakota State Bison — to the White House on Monday. And, according to a pool report, he served them a lunchtime spread of Big-Macs, Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches and french fries, among other fast-food items.

Trump served a similar meal to the Clemson Tigers when they visited the White House in January.

According to the pool report, Trump told the Bison that he could've served them a meal prepared by chefs, but "I know you people." Several players laughed, according to the pool report.

He lied about the Clemson menu attributing it to the shut down over his wall. We know he lied, because he offered no such similar excuse this time. Just because he jokes about it to the players, doesn't mean he isn't mocking them. He won't offer them more than fast food, because he wants everyone to know what he thinks of them. His base has long had a movement even among tea party members that they 'don't follow sports because it is too political'. He is playing to those individuals. There is a clerk at our local convenience store who when I first asked him about a big game on tv, if he knew the score or had heard anything about the score, instead of saying "Sorry I don't" and leaving it at that, he made a point of explaining that he did not follow sports because it was too political.

The player will put his thumb on a scanner and step on a scale, and his personal menu will be produced based on the information gleaned from the readings.

It's a story about the differences between "Power 5" programs like Nebraska and Clemson, and non-power 5 programs like North Dakota State, but the reality is that athletes generally don't eat shitty food such as what the president is serving to them.

I played DIII football way back in the mid 1980s and even then, at the small college level we didn't eat garbage like that. These days scholarship athletes (I was decidedly NOT a scholarship athlete) have their intake- portions, foods, time of consumption, everything- regulated to such an extent that I am quite sure they eat no fries, or Macs, or Chick-fil-a whatsoever.

When you eat that shit your body wants more because it's loaded with sugars, simple carbs, and fats. Your body gets used to those things and wants them regularly because they provide immediate satisfaction, nevermind what happens an hour or so later.

It's doubly bad because food like that is cheap- inexpensive calories are a necessity for people with extremely limited economic means. The end result is a big hit on the health of people least likely to have decent health insurance.
