Pence floats offer to kill Trump emergency disapproval resolution

Source: The Hill

Vice President Mike Pence is floating an offer to Republican senators that could lead to the defeat of a Democratic resolution overturning President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the Mexican border, according to GOP sources briefed on the matter.

Under the deal offered by Pence, Trump would sign legislation reining in his power to declare future national emergencies if they defeat the resolution of disapproval.

Killing the resolution on the Republican-controlled Senate floor would spare the president a major embarrassment and avoid him having to issue the first veto of his presidency.

But there is some skepticism among GOP senators whether Trump will actually go through with it. And the plan is hurt by the fact that a bill to curb the president’s power to declare national emergencies won’t come to the Senate floor until after the March recess.

A Senate vote disapproving the Emergency Declaration, even if vetoed, will be a strong piece of evidence in the inevitable Court case.

He did this with DACA. First he killed it. Then, he said I'll bring it back if you do what I want.

Truly the behavior of a thug. If it wasn't for him breaking the law by declaring an emergency, he wouldn't have this "bargaining chip".

I broke the law, but I promise to stop breaking the law if you'll do what I want.

Disgusting. But, I have no doubt these idiotic Rubes will go for it.

If polls show Trump is behind whomever the Democratic nominee happens to be, he could try to "inspire" his wretched base with a choice that's more to their liking. Someone who's as much as a racist, sexist, xenophobe as himself. With Trump you have to expect the weirdest thing possible.

I realize the phrase “in their right mind” opens up a whole discussion about the repuKKKe politicians, but as evil and sinister as they have shown themselves to be, are they really stupid enough to believe, for one nano-second, that this disgraceful jackass would keep his word on ANYTHING? Knowing full well he wouldn’t keep his word, I have little doubt they will enable him further down the path to hell.

Their gawd Raygun was proud to veto stuff and get his way, daring an override. In fact I think he may have had the most vetoes of any President.

If this is vetoed, neither chamber has enough votes to override so it will go into effect.

I don't get this thing about refusing to move legislation to the President unless it is guaranteed to be approved. It's literally like the criminal "Hastert Rule" on steroids, which among the GOP, demands that no legislation go forward unless it has the approval of "the majority of the majority" (when they are the majority).

All she has to do is say she won't give cover to a fake emergency by inhibiting the President's authority in a real emergency. That would be insinuating that the next Democratic President will in fact misuse national emergency powers and she won't stop it.
