Georgia legislature sends 6-week abortion ban to governor to sign into law
Source: Think Progress
The Georgia House of Representatives on Friday passed a six-week abortion ban, in a 92 to 78 vote, despite massive outcry.
Lawmakers voted in favor of the so-called fetal heartbeat ban, while people in the chamber shouted shame. The bill is now headed to Gov. Brian Kemps (R) desk, who has said hell sign the bill into law.
This year, there has been an unprecedented surge in state lawmakers trying to ban abortions before most people even know theyre pregnant, with Kentucky and Mississippi passing similar bills earlier this year.
A federal court already blocked Kentuckys six-week ban, and Mississippis ban is facing a lawsuit. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) already said itll sue Kemp if he signs the Georgia bill into law.

(1,279 posts)I am not against a woman's right to choose. But if you believe that human life begins at conception, killing a "baby" in the womb because the mother does not want it or it may cause physical or mental harm to the mother is murder. If you are pro-life, you should agree that killing a child in the womb or after it is out of the womb is murder. What is their reasoning that it is okay to kill a "baby" who is less then 6 weeks old since conception?
