Trump Calls for NY Times and WaPo to Have Their Pulitzers for Russia Reporting 'Taken Away'

President Donald Trump is slamming The Washington Post and The New York Times for winning the Pulitzer Prize for reporting “negative and fake” coverage on collusion with Russia.

“So funny that The New York Times & The Washington Post got a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage (100% NEGATIVE and FAKE!) of Collusion with Russia – And there was No Collusion!” Trump opined Friday night. “So, they were either duped or corrupt? In any event, their prizes should be taken away by the Committee!”

The staff of the Times and Post shared the $15,000 prize for what the Pulitzer committee called “deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage.”

As WaPo’s Josh Dawsey noted, the reporting — without a single substantial correction — has not been proven inaccurate.

President Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., echoed his father's calls on Friday for The New York Times and The Washington Post to have their joint Pulitzer Prize for reporting on the Russia probe revoked.

"He’s right... unless they give Pulitzer’s for fiction," Trump Jr. said quote-tweeting the president, who earlier in the evening suggested the prize be taken back.

Many were quick to point out after Trump Jr.'s tweet, however, that there is a Pulitzer Prize for fiction, which went to "Less", by Andrew Sean Greer in 2018. The award was created in 1918 originally under the category "Novel" but was later changed to "Fiction."

I am very tired of the melodrama and threats.

You want to inspire your base, with effective policies. But, it is also not a smart strategy to be so obnoxious and polarizing. It will motivate people to vote for your opponent, while scaring away potential swing voters. I know a not politically affiliated voter who likes John Kasich, because he is calm and the ‘adult in the room,’ at least compared to Donald Trump. He seems nice, competent, and is not a mentally unbalanced bully.

She would have voted for John Kasich against Hillary Clinton, but she hates Trump. She voted for Hillary Clinton in November 2016. According to polls in 2016, John Kasich was the Republican who would have done the best in the general election.

By letting Trump off the hook, even though there was ample evidence of AT LEAST interference. Firing Comey to stop the investigation.
