Assembly Speaker Robin Vos must testify in Wisconsin's gerrymandering case, judges rule

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

"Vos was a key figure in enacting that plan and he was involved at nearly every stage of the process. Probably no one has a better understanding of the challenged (redistricting) plan than he does."

Republicans and Democrats have been fighting over the election maps for eight years, ever since Republicans used their complete control of state government to establish legislative boundaries that helped them keep their majorities. There have been two lawsuits over the maps and one trip to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the latest feud, Democratic voters who sued over the maps sought to depose Vos, of Rochester. He argued he didn't have to answer questions or turn over documents because lawmakers are generally immune from civil litigation under the state constitution.

The court's majority rejected that argument because of the seriousness of the legal fight and because information Vos has about lawmakers' intentions "is not only relevant but also necessary" to the case.

Most of these guys operate behind closed doors, and they stick up for each other. We see the same thing in Pennsylvania, and that's why the redistricting was such a tough but important battle. Call the Repukes out and get them to testify on the record. They'll fight it as long as possible of course. They know they're cheating. The whole point of their activity is to damage democracy and the fair elections process.

Rotten gerrymandering was done in secret by attorneys -- even the Republicans who got to see the map early on had to sign secrecy oaths. And, of course, the attorneys' fees were paid by Wisconsin taxpayers.

clutching to power in Wisconsin is to the point of ridiculousness. And the gerrymander guarantees their corruption goes unchecked. Dems have to beat them something like 2 to 1 in order to win in the state. Paul Ryan had a bullet proof seat like this or he would have been LONG gone. He didn't even win his own home town of Janesville, the puke.

I hope they catch Vos and that Fitzgerald asshole in criminality. Fingers crossed!
