In light of police deaths, training is scrutinized

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-01-06/police-deaths-training-raids/52488196/1

"The recent surge in fatal police shootings is weighing heavily on law enforcement trainers, some of whom are calling for a reassessment of high-risk fugitive and drug raids that have resulted in a number of deadly ambushes.
"Odgen Police Chief Wayne Tarwater addresses the media following an incident in which one officer was killed and five others were wounded when they attempted to serve a drug-related search warrant in Ogden."
"It's time to change our thinking," says Pat McCarthy, who advises police agencies across the country. "Cops are exposing themselves to increasing danger many times over, and it's just not necessary."

No such luck for all the civilian casualties, and victims of over the top shoot-first-ask-questions-later cases. Not to mention tazering deaths, injuries from less-lethal crowd control, pepper spray, batons, and police beatings. Maybe it makes me a bad person, but I feel very little empathy for 'em.

Everything is ramped up, pumped up, turned up, hyped up to such a degree in the USA these days. I am amazed we aren't all dead from the stress. De-escalation brings Peace.

But nope - guess it's just par for the course if some street thug gets wasted by the cops for "resisting". No special training required there.
