Trump urges Roy Moore not to run for US Senate in Alabama
Source: AP
President Donald Trump warned Wednesday the "consequences will be devastating" if Alabama Republican Roy Moore, whose 2017 U.S. Senate campaign was battered by allegations of long-ago sexual harassment of teenagers, seeks the seat again in 2020.
Moore lost in the once-reliably red state in a 2017 special election amid the sexual misconduct allegations , which he denied. He told The Associated Press earlier this month that he is considering another campaign next year.
Trump, who backed Moore in 2017 despite the allegations, tweeted "I have NOTHING against Roy Moore," but warned that "Roy Moore cannot win." He added that if Democrat Doug Jones retains the seat in 2020, "many of the incredible gains that we have made during my Presidency may be lost."
Trump's comments come as national Republicans have tried to keep Moore out of the race.

they've also been trying keep KKKobach away in KS, but they can still easy win, they probably just want to avoid even making those races competitive in blood red states

President Trump and his son publicly warn Roy Moore against a US Senate bid in Alabama

............Neither the President -- who endorsed Moore late in his 2017 bid -- nor his son, Donald Trump Jr., referred to the allegations against Moore in their comments this week.
Roy Moore campaign teases 2020 Senate run and compares him to Kavanaugh
On Tuesday, Trump Jr. sparred on Twitter with Moore after Moore suggested that Alabama GOP Rep. Bradley Byrne, who is currently in the Senate race, is "worried" that Moore could win the election.
"You mean like last time? You're literally the only candidate who could lose a GOP seat in pro-Trump, pro-USA ALABAMA," Trump Jr. tweeted. "Running for office should never become a business model. If you actually care about #MAGA more than your own ego, it's time to ride off into the sunset, Judge."
In a now-deleted tweet, Moore hit back.

(9,426 posts)as any tRump, so why not run? Immorality seems to be "in vogue" right now for any gop contender. Have Franklin Graham organize a day of prayer for him, like he did for tRump. Jr. is considering running for mayor of N.Y.!! Lack of brains runs rampant in the tRump family.

(4,066 posts)If a Moore candidacy brings up all the appropriate #metoo conversations then Trump will certainly be caught up in them again. It didn't seem to cost Trump at all in 2016, maybe they've done more polling and they're worried about that just being another straw on the camels' back in 2020.
