House votes to allow Pelosi to call Trump comments 'racist'

Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., asked Pelosi if she would like to "rephrase her comment." House members are barred from making disparaging remarks about the president on the floor of the House, but the resolution is aimed at criticizing the president for comments directed at four congresswomen of color who he said should "go back" where "they came" from.
Pelosi said she had "cleared my remarks with the parliamentarian before I read them," referring to the House's rules referee.
Collins persisted. "I made a point of order that the gentlewomans words are unparliamentary and her words be taken down," he said.
The proceedings were then put on hold for over an hour as Collins' request was considered. After the 60-minute mark, presiding chair Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., decided he'd had enough, and chastised both sides for rushing the vote and escalating tensions.

Speaker Pelosi, as far as I can tell, never directly called tRump a racist. She pointed out that his tweets were racist. Repubs are going to look horrible trying to defend those racist tweets.

WASHINGTON The House voted on Tuesday to condemn as racist President Trumps attacks against four congresswomen of color, but only after the debate over the presidents language devolved into a bitterly partisan brawl that showcased deep rifts over race, ethnicity and political ideology in the age of Trump.
The measure passed nearly along party lines, 240-187, following one of the most polarizing exchanges on the House floor in recent memory. Only four Republicans and the Houses lone independent, Representative Justin Amash of Michigan, voted with all Democrats to condemn Mr. Trump.
I know racism when I see it, I know racism when I feel it, and at the highest level of government, theres no room for racism, thundered Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia, an icon of the civil rights movement who was nearly beaten to death in Alabama in 1965.
Some Republicans were just as adamant in their defense of Mr. Trump: What has really happened here is that the president and his supporters have been forced to endure months of allegations of racism, said Representative Dan Meuser, Republican of Pennsylvania. This ridiculous slander does a disservice to our nation.
