House votes to condemn Trump 'racist comments', with only four Republicans backing the measure
Source: NBC News
"The Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday night condemning President Donald Trump for his "racist comments" about four Democratic congresswomen of color."
"The resolution passed largely along party lines 235 Democrats joined by only four Republican supported the measure following hours of back-and-forth and gamesmanship between Republicans and Democrats, which included a GOP objection to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's remarks about Trump, and whether she would be allowed to keep speaking on the floor."
"The four Republicans who voted in favor of the resolution, which "strongly condemns President Donald Trumps racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color," were Reps. Will Hurd of Texas, Fred Upton of Michigan, Susan Brooks of Indiana and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania. Rep. Justin Amash, who announced his departure from the Republican Party earlier this month, also voted in favor of the resolution."

(51,607 posts)Good for those four and for Rep Green when he called for impeachment and now the House has two days to vote on it as a procedural vote (send it to Judiciary or table it). Maybe they will start an Impeachment Inquiry now.

(15,286 posts)He's just like his brother Mike who served the same district before him. Both brothers came from Bucks county government which is more non-partisan or bi-partisan. They both get undeserved credit for being "moderate" or "bi-partisan" because of that, but they are reliable GOP votes in congress.

(15,286 posts)squeaked by in 2018 although voting against the resolution would've played well with his redneck constituents in Bensalem, Levittown and other lower Bucks towns.
The important point is these are the CDs where Trump needs to make inroads in 2020, but the local pols know which way the wind is blowing.
I'm a little surprised Scott Perry, PA-10, voted against the resolution because he's got a really strong challenger in 2020 in current auditor general Eugene DePasquale. But then Perry's a rw, tea partier.

(34,111 posts)there will be more as time goes along. This will escalate Trump and while there ARE racists in the R party there are a lot of people who I bet do not like this one single bit. They are cowards, Trump can ruin a person but if they believe he is a racist they will gain courage from the 4 +1 today. It is horrendous that it was not 100% right now.
