Michigan Rep. Mitchell won't seek reelection
Source: The Hill
Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.) is expected to announce on Wednesday that he will not seek reelection in 2020, citing frustration with political rancor in Washington.
Mitchell, whos only in his second term in Congress, will announce his retirement in a speech on the House floor, according to a copy of the remarks published Wednesday morning by Politico.
A career in Washington has never been my objective, Mitchell will say. My objective has always been simply to work to address significant challenges this nation faces: health care, immigration, and infrastructure for example.
However, it appears to me that rhetoric overwhelms policy, and politics consumes much of the oxygen in this city.

Yeah, why work hard. Grab the pension and go.

(15,546 posts)This is my rep and I've been bombarding him with emails regarding impeaching Trump. I've mentioned it on DU many times. I wouldn't let up on him, not that this had anything to do with it. Ironically, I was getting ready to email him once again once today's hearings were over.
Oh, I hope we can get a good, solid Dem to run.

(15,546 posts)However, I doubt he's the kind who will do anything other than "skate" for the rest of his term. He was a complete waste as a representative. I can't name a single thing he did that was worthwhile. But then he's a Republican.
I'm tempted to email him and say, "Couldn't stand the heat any longer, could you?" I have a feeling that the Dems in this district were on him like white on rice regarding impeachment. Heck, maybe even some republicans were.
