Democrat calls for congressional investigation into Epstein death
Source: The Hill
Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) on Saturday called for a congressional investigation into the death of disgraced billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein after he reportedly died of an apparent suicide in his Manhattan jail cell.
The death of Jeffrey #Epstein does not end the need for justice for his victims or the right of the public to know why a prolific child molester got a slap on the wrist instead of a long prison sentence, Frankel tweeted.
With the obvious end to criminal proceedings against Epstein, it is important that the US House Committee on Oversight and Reform begin its investigation.
Epstein, who was arrested early last month, was in jail awaiting trial on allegations of trafficking dozens of minors for sex after previously accepting a plea deal in 2008 over similar accusations that landed him on the sex offender registry.

I didn't know until a few years ago that one of my cousins was one of his prison guards and got to know him quite well. The prison took Valachi's safety seriously and only certain prison guards were allowed to be around him. When he died, they spirited his body out of the prison to be autopsied to make sure that he had not been killed on their watch.

(14,966 posts)Whether or not Epstein really killed himself, whether or not he was enabled or neglected in the course of doing so, this looks to the entire world like dictator-gangster stuff. This is the sort of thing we expect in Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc.
No matter what their findings, the already announced FBI investigation will be seen as a cover-up. Even if the findings are damning of certain people, the question will always remain: if that's what they said, what worse shit were they covering up?
Congress MUST perform oversight and issue their own report.

(13,041 posts)Maxwell, in her deposition, acknowledged that her job included hiring many people. Epstein had six homes. She listed assistants, architects, decorators, cooks, cleaners, gardeners, pool people, pilots, all sorts of people. A very small part of my job was from time to time to find adult professional massage therapists for Jeffrey, she testified. As far as Im concerned, everyone who came to his house was an adult professional person....
A guy that owns a hotel, a really large hotel chain another foreign president, I cant remember his name. He was Spanish.) My whole life revolved around just pleasing these men and keeping Ghislaine and Jeffrey happy, she said. Ghislaine told me from her mouth to do these things. She also allegedly was personally involved in them. It is your contention that Ghislaine Maxwell had sex with underage girls virtually every day when [you were] around her, correct?, she was asked. Her answer was simple: Yes.

(16,926 posts)along these same lines, did ANYBODY actually ever see the "dead" body of "Kenny Boy" - Kenneth Lay of ENRON fame and "acquaintance" of G W Bush?
Funny how these special people just seem to have "problems" when they are in a position to enlighten others regarding past "experiences."

While we don't know one way or another, the aparent jail suicide of someone who had dirt on a LOT of rich and powerful people defenitely needs looked at. And it should involve Congress considering his relationship with Trump, and other politicians/political figures.

(16,254 posts)Since Barr has called for one, can Congress also do so? Can Barr lock up the data/information? He's tricky that way.
The last thing the powerful want out are their names.
If Barr blocks any investigation by Congress, it is time to frog march Barr out the door. Impeach them both.

(220 posts)that Epstein committed suicide? Especially after all of the documents unsealed by the court the day before his "suicide".
Even with the strong case against him, based on his history Epstein would have thought he could buy his way out of it-not kill himself.

(9,535 posts)He was an arrogant, cocky jerk who probably thought he could get a minimal sentence again or buy his way out completely. If that failed, he could blackmail Trump to pardon him or release what he knows - if the Trump rape story of a 13 year old at Epstein's party is true.
