At Least 4 Philly Officers Shot, Massive Police Presence in Nicetown
Source: NBC
At least four Philadelphia police officers were shot in the city's Nicetown section Wednesday afternoon, officials said, prompting a massive response to the North Philadelphia neighborhood. At least one suspect is in custody.
Frantic calls from responding officers came in around 4:30 p.m., according to audio obtained via Broadcastify.
"Officer calls for everything you got. SWAT, long gun," a law enforcement officer can be heard saying on the audio. "I got an officer shot."
SkyForce10 was over the scene as an unidentified gunman fired at dozens of police officers nearly 30 minutes after officers descended on the corner of 15th and Butler streets.

They were apparently serving a warrant at a house and things went wild. Sounds like they poked a hornet's nest.
Local news radio said that the helicopters overhead were told to move away because obviously the shooters are determining where the perimeters are based on how the helicopters are positioned.

At least five police officers were shot in a confrontation with possibly two gunmen Wednesday afternoon in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia. The first report of shots fired came at 4:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of North 15th Street, police said.
Initially, police said there was one shooter inside a house on the block still firing shots shortly before 5 p.m. Later, police said they believed there were two shooters inside.
One officer was struck in the head but was conscious and communicating, police said. The second officer was hit in one or both arms. A third officer was shot, possibly in the arm. A fourth officer also was shot. Three officers were taken to Temple University Hospital, and one was being treated at Einstein Medical Center. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., a fifth officer was hit by gunfire. Police said the injury was minor.
Two officers remain remain trapped in the house, police said.

(128,951 posts)I don't think the gang-bangers do what I would consider "vanity" bump stock type of stuff. But whoever is shooting may have some good sized magazines of ammunition and/or may be using multiple weapons. I only say this because the way these small one-way streets are setup, usually with 60 row-homes per block, there is probably quite a bit of echo going on with sounds like gun fire making it sound like more shots fired than actually was... Of course when this is all over they will be doing all the investigations and ballistics, etc., to confirm.

(1,296 posts)I mean, no matter how much they outgun the police, the cops have essentially unlimited backup. Starting a gunfight like this is suicidal in the end. Are they running on the same kind of hate as one of those mass shooters?
BumRushDaShow
(128,951 posts)and have that type of weaponry, they "report to" someone up the food chain and it becomes a choice between protecting the boss's assets or die trying (by cop or by a "hit" ordered by the organization against them and/or their families).

The local news radio station (KYW) also played a portion of the police radio recording they obtained when it first started. They listed the house address as 3715 N. 15th street (so you can put that address into Google and see a street view of the house and the rest of the little street).

Police sources identified the gunman in a standoff at a Tioga apartment building that left six police officers injured as Maurice Hill, 36, a Philadelphia man with a lengthy history of gun convictions and of resisting attempts to bring him to justice. The police sources declined to be identified because they were not authorized to speak. Reached by phone about 9:30 p.m. Thursday evening, Shaka Johnson, the lawyer who most recently represented Hill, confirmed that Hill had a connection to the standoff. My client is requesting me to come to the scene, he said.
The standoff began Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. when a Narcotics Strike Force unit attempted to serve a search warrant at a house on the 3700 block of North 15th Street. For the next few hours, police used bullhorns and phone calls, trying to get him to surrender. And then, just after midnight, a suspect left the home and was placed into police custody.
After Hills surrender, Johnson said in an interview with CBS3 that Hill called him around 8:30 p.m. on his personal phone in a panic." I told him, you gotta surrender, man, said Johnson, who added that he has known Hill for about a decade.
Hills history in the adult criminal justice system began in 2001 when he was 18 and was arrested with a gun that had an altered serial number. Public records show that he has been arrested about a dozen times since turning 18, and convicted six times on charges that involved illegal possession of guns, drug dealing, and aggravated assault. He has been in and out of prison; the longest sentence handed him came in 2010, when a federal judge gave him a 55-month term.
