WASHINGTON (AP) Expect a direct hit on many U.S. consumers from President Donald Trumps latest round of tariffs on Chinese imports. He had no intention of pulling back on import taxes set to kick in Sunday.
Theyre on. Theyre on, the president told reporters Friday before departing for a weekend stay at Camp David.
Americans were largely spared from higher prices in his previous rounds of trade penalties. No longer. The 15% tariffs on $112 billion in Chinese imports will apply to items ranging from smartwatches and TVs to shoes, diapers, sporting goods and meat and dairy products.
For the first time since Trump launched his trade war, American households faced price increases. Many U.S. companies said they would be forced to pass on to customers the higher prices they had to pay on Chinese imports.

(6,917 posts)As always, hes distracting from the tariffs that China just announced targeting American goods. Its a win-win for Trump and Chinaboth governments collect additional taxes on commercial products, stealing from their mismanaged economies.

My family will be cutting back on purchases substantially at least until these tariffs are lifted.
We do not have margin in our income to blow on unnecessary taxes.
Why aren't Republicans screaming about this new tax on Americans?......... ......

The USTR (Office of the U.S. Trade Representative) confirmed to Christianity Today on Tuesday that "certain products are being removed from the [10%] tariff list based on health, safety, national security, and other factors."
The core of Trump's political support includes religious conservatives.
China maintains its status as the top producer of Bibles in the world due to specialized printing technology that is necessary to print and bind on specialized, thin paper required to produce Bibles. They currently print over 75% of Bibles in the world.
The confirmation that Bibles would be exempted from the tariff could offer relief to many who expressed concern that the trade mandate could be detrimental to Bible distribution.
"We believe the Administration was unaware of the potential negative impact these proposed tariffs would have on the publishing industry generally, and that it never intended to impose a Bible Tax on consumers and religious organizations," HarperCollins Christian Publishing President Mark Schoenwald said in a June statement.
Approximately 20 million Bibles printed in China are sold or given away in the United States annually.

I wonder if the exemption is only for the Christian Bible, or if it includes other religions as well?
