Ex-lawmaker Issa to launch a bid for return to Congress

Source: Associated Press

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Darrell Issa, a deep-pocketed businessman who garnered widespread admiration and scorn as one of former President Barack Obama's chief antagonists, is poised to attempt a return to Congress to replace a fellow Republican.

Issa is expected to announce Thursday that he is seeking the Southern California seat held by U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, who is running for a seventh term while facing charges of siphoning campaign funds for personal use.

Issa called a news conference in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon with several other Republicans, including Larry Wilske, a retired Navy SEAL who told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Issa informed him that he was running. Wilske is also in the race, but he plans to drop out and back Issa.

Hunter and Issa could wind up going head-to-head under California's primary system, which allows the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, to compete in the general election.

Issa's entry brings more attention to what was already a closely watched race. It puts Hunter in an increasingly difficult position, given Issa's wealth and long record of criticizing Obama, which could play well in one of Southern California's last staunchly Republican districts.

which said all the local reps support impeachment (all Dems of course) except for Hunter. I was hoping he would be history soon but not to Issa. I guess the local Indivisible group will be hanging outside of his office again. That is one of the main reason's he lost support. They were there every Tues for over a year!

5. Carl DeMaio is planning a rival press op and has some scathing things to say about Issa:

DeMaio is scum, too. But looks like these two will be cannibalizing each other. the other several Rep contenders are supposedly all dropping out tomorrow to endorse Issa. Neither Issa nor DeMaio even live in the district.

Meanwhile a third Rep, State Senator Brian Jones, announced today that he is running. He is squeaky clean and conservative and well known in the district popular even, and could win. Why isn't the GOP rallying behind him in this red district? Because they want someone corrupt they can control.

Here's a choice excerpt leaked email from DeMaio, the party pooper for Issa. I'll be there in the a.m.:

“Darrell Issa is a Quitter Who Neglected Us and Cost the GOP Seats in CA!”
Former Constituents Abandoned by Darrell Issa to Hold Press Conference Warning Voters

WHAT: Darrell Issa’s former constituents plan to blast the multi-millionaire ex-Congressman for the following:

• Diverting over $645,000 of campaign cash from his unsuspecting donors and putting those funds into his personal checking account - even though he is a multi-millionaire and once the richest man in Congress
• Fleeing his own once-safe Congressional seat rather than fighting for it, resulting in more losses for the Republican Party in California. Had Issa stood and fought back against the Democrats he could have tied up their resources and helped other Republican candidates win.
• Neglecting constituent service for years and being an absentee Congressional representative more concerned with getting on cable news than resolving constituent problems

WHERE: 210 E Main St, El Cajon, CA 92020.

WHEN: 8:45am, Thursday, September 26, 2019

WHO: Carl DeMaio - Candidate for CA50 Congressional District
Constituents of the 49th Congressional District

"Darrell Issa epitomizes what is wrong with career politicians when he fled his own district rather than fighting for it for his constituents and enriched himself by taking more than $645,000 of campaign cash from unsuspecting donors and putting it into his personal account." -Carl DeMaio

“Darrell Issa is a quitter who neglected his own constituents for years and cost us a once-reliably Republican Congressional District. Mr. Issa, the richest Member of Congress worth hundreds of millions of dollars – raised more than $1 million from unsuspecting Republican donors for his supposed campaign to fight for the 49th District. When he announced he was not going to defend district, he was of course, asked to transfer some of those funds to the Republican Party and other groups to help defend Republican seats in California. He refused and instead transferred $645,000 of his donors’ funds to his personal checking account after leaving office.” -Diane Harkey

the dumbass 'necks who live in this district might well elect Grand Theft. After all, given that he "cut and ran" from his former district, he prolly wouldn't risk it in CA50 unless he had good reason to think he'd win.

I used to live in this district, back in the mountains, it's San Diegotucky.
