Supreme Court will allow Sandy Hook families to move forward in suit against gunmaker Remington
Source: CNBC
The Supreme Court said Tuesday that it will not hear a closely-watched case against gun-maker Remington, a move the gunmaker has warned could potentially increase the liability of firearm manufacturers to suits brought by victims of gun crimes.
The courts action will allow the families to move forward with their lawsuit.
The case was brought by family members of those killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead.
The families sued the makers of the gun that was used, an AR-15 style weapon made by Remington, in 2014, alleging that the companys marketing of the weapon inspired Adam Lanza to commit the massacre.

(50,823 posts)since that's precisely why douchebags buy these weapons, to feel tough by getting stuff that looks like military weapons as part of some fantasy of resisting government tyranny.
I hope they can get a fair trial. Reforming the marketing would reduce gun sales.

(5,042 posts)The decision will eventually get to the Boozin Brett Court where theyll probably declare gun manufacturers as sacred. They just dont want to hear it prior to 2021.

Even so, the decision was seen as having broad implications for gun-control advocates across the country who have had little success in seeking ways to hold gunmakers responsible for crimes committed with their products.
Firearms company Remington had convinced a lower court that federal law prevented the families lawsuit. But Connecticuts high court said that the law had exceptions and that one of them was meant for state consumer protection laws.
The NRA fought hard to get the immunity from Congress, saying it was needed to protect U.S. companies from costly, and what they see as unfair, litigation that blames them for the crimes of others.
