Trump Says He's 'Strongly' Considering Impeachment Testimony

Source: Bloomberg

Donald Trump said Monday that he’s “strongly considering” testifying in his own impeachment inquiry, complimenting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the idea in a tweet after again insulting her and congressional Democrats for pursuing his removal from office.

Trump indicated that he thinks his testimony -- possibly in writing -- would be a way to resolve the inquiry and get Congress focused on issues he’d like to advance before his 2020 re-election campaign, including a new North American trade deal and drug prices.

Republicans whine about a 'perjury trap'.

It is impossible to fall into a 'perjury trap' if you tell the truth.

With Trump, they have a legitimate fear.

only he can properly defend himself. His inclination is to testify. But his enablers and protectors will stop him.

I agree that in person testimony, where he faces direct questions and follow up is the way to go, rather than written answers. We should push hard for that. But if the House does accept written answers, it should be ONLY with the clear understanding that they are given under oath. Administer the oath in person before he receives the written questions. When he submits the answers, have him swear under oath that they are HIS answers and are the solemn truth.

Pity to miss out on an in perso testimony, though. It would be the most dramatic role he has ever acted in.

He'll never appear.

And he won't reply in writing.

He just can't resist putting this carrot out there, thinking it'll give the committee something to chew on for a while, until someone they forget why they are there.
