Top House Judiciary Republican makes unfounded claim that Democrats are 'in love with terrorists'

Washington (CNN)The top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday accused Democrats of being "in love with terrorists," claiming, without evidence, the party's members mourn the recent death of Iran's top military general more than they do fallen US service members.

The remarks from Georgia Rep. Doug Collins came during an interview with Fox News' Lou Dobbs in which the congressman was asked about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement earlier that day that the chamber will take up legislation on Thursday to restrain President Donald Trump's military actions amid hostilities with Iran. The vote comes a week after a US drone strike killed top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and sharply escalated tensions between the longtime adversaries.

Although the congressional reaction to Trump's actions toward Iran in the past week has largely fallen along partisan lines, Collins' remarks were especially remarkable. No congressional Democrat has mourned Soleimani, whom US officials have blamed for the deaths of hundreds of Americans.

"Nancy Pelosi does it again and her Democrats fall right in line," Collins said. "One, they are in love with terrorists -- we see that. They mourn Soleimani more than they mourn our Gold Star families who are the ones who suffered under Soleimani. That's a problem."

21. As someone living in Georgia

can assure you Mr. Collins has been working up to this moment. My home state is Alabama, but I've been living in Georgia for 3 years.

the state's public talk radio coalition is called Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB). They run a political show that focuses on Georgia (both state and federal matters) called Political Rewind.

Last year Mr. Collins was given an entire show for an interview. the interview was around the time of the Mueller report being released. It was during this time he firmly established himself as a shameless defender of Mr. Trump that was willing to not hold himself to any standard.

The talking points back then where poor Mr. Trump has been treated so unfairly. The Democrats just hate Donald Trump etc. At one point Mr. Collins asked the ridiculous question "when has a president ever been treated so poorly and uncivilly?"

the shame in this is obvious, but more so, the hosts of this show didn't push back at all. essentially Doug Collins was able to sit and froth at the mouth being dishonest and untruthful for 50 minutes.

while I unabashedly support the first amendment, we cannot live in a nation that allows such scoundrels to outright lie and slander folks if we want this experiment to keep on working.
