Sen. Cory Booker suspends presidential campaign
Source: ABC
Sen. Cory Booker suspended his presidential campaign Monday, the final act of a bid for the Democratic nomination defined by a persistent struggle to catch fire with voters and donors despite his relatively high profile and long-standing presidential ambitions.
The news of the senators decision came weeks days before the Iowa caucuses, where, despite a large field organization Booker, D-N.J., was expected to finish outside of the top tier of candidates, based on recent polling. His announcement also comes on the eve of the seventh Democratic debate which he did not qualify to participate in due to a lack of qualifying polls towards Democratic National Committee polling thresholds, according to ABC News analysis.
"Its with a full heart that I share this news -- Ive made the decision to suspend my campaign for president," Booker wrote supporters in an email, echoing the sentiment in a video. "It was a difficult decision to make, but I got in this race to win, and Ive always said I wouldnt continue if there was no longer a path to victory."

The girlfriend really liked him and was planning to caucus for him. We were all impressed by him.

(401 posts)How did the party of civil rights and standing up for minorities get to this point?
I truly worry that its going to come down to two old white straight guys for the nomination.
Not exactly going to inspire the young/minority demographic

(5,042 posts)Im not a fan of his, but what can I say?
Booker obviously didnt fire enough of a young minority demographic up. Is that the partys fault? These candidates need to look in the mirror.

The everything for free because well tax the rich will quickly and the socialist label (accurate or not) will be hard to shake
I come to the conclusion that our nominee is not in the race yet ... not sure who it might be but Im expecting someone to disrupt the race

(45,452 posts)We're lucky that our frontrunners are excellent choices. Young minorities are not that influential in the primaries this year, which is unfortunate. Many older minorities are supporting who they believe would be a safe choice to defeat Trump over a risky choice who may better speak to their issues.
It was great to have Booker's voice in the debates because he brought up issues and perceptions that other candidates wouldn't know about because they have different backgrounds and experiences.

(6,377 posts)I figured any candidate that was still running at this point would at least stay in until Iowa and then drop out, with it only being a few weeks away.

Sorry to see him go.

(63,912 posts)nominee if he/she is not a minority. Cory would be immensely valuable reaching out to minority communities all over the country and of course, after 8 years, in line for the presidency himself.
There is a real possibility that I am right here...
