Barack Obama lands first Oscar nomination

Source: consequenceofsound.net

Barack Obama is now an Academy Award nominee.

America’s 44th president landed his first-ever Oscar nomination for American Factory, an original documentary distributed by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions in partnership with Netflix.

American Factory chronicles the shuttering of a General Motors factory in Dayton, Ohio and the impact it hand on the local community.

The documentary has been widely praised, with a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 86 out of 100.

On Monday morning, the Academy added to the film’s legacy by naming it one of five finalists for Best Documentary Feature.

He and Michelle joined Netflix to do this kind of documentary and other forms of entertainment. It isn’t a fluke that he was nominated. And the documentary isn’t about him, it’s about the automobile industry. He would accept it in honor of the American people and the makers of the documentary and the American automobile workers.

It's a revealing and sobering look on how a segment of the US labor force is being forced to adjust to lower wages to be competitive in the global market. The Chinese factory's celebration of their company and its CEO is both amazing and disturbing.

And this is what the fascist party is so proud of...record unemployment, where American family bread winners are employed at $14 an hour. Proud. Such asinine claims.

Of course when you average it out with the $200k jobs, it looks like everyone wins.

And with Fox assisting him, it's hard to break through. Poor suckers.

I know not all of them are suckers. There are plenty of racists, fascists, haters and assholes to give Trump maybe 20% of the vote.

All we have to do is peel off 1 to 2% to beat the dickhead in November. Unless he resigns first.

I know it's a subject near and dear to Obama's heart, from his days as a community organizer in southside Chicago neighborhoods hard hit by factory closures.

Not unlike a lot of what you see in the suburbs around Buenos Aires, since the early '80s when Martínez de Hoz and his Chicago Boys caused a wave of factory and business closures.

The goal? Concentrate the economy (and thus, the believed, political power) in the hands of banksters and big landowners. That's the basis of modern right-wing economics, sadly.

And then as now, middle-class snob appeal is used to get people to go against their own interests. Cheeto's proving to be a real pro at that.
