Toese is also a member of the Proud Boys, another far-right group that has engaged in fights with leftist protesters at Portland demonstrations. The protests between the groups drew national attention to Portland and presented challenges for city officials and police, who have at times struggled to control the sometimes violent clashes.
During a protest on June 8, 2018, Toese allegedly assaulted and injured Timothy Ledwith, according to court records.
Ledwith, a self-described anti-fascist, plans to speak at Toeses plea hearing Tuesday. Previously, Ledwith said the assault left him with stitches and a concussion.
The month before that alleged assault, Toese and other Proud Boys members were involved in a similar physical alternation at the Vancouver Mall in Clark County, Washington. According to cellphone video, Toese threw a teenager to the ground before mall security officers separated them. Charges were never filed in that case.

Toeses expected guilty plea will be the third filed this week in Multnomah County court by members of far-right groups. On Monday, two members of Patriot Prayer pleaded guilty to riot charges stemming from a street brawl at a Portland cider bar in May.
