Republicans livid after Schiff cites supposed threat to GOP senators

Source: Politico

Rep. Adam Schiff read aloud an anonymous quote about what would happen to Republican senators if they voted against President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial. It did not land well.

The California Congressman, in ending the Democrats' three-day opening salvo, was discussing the internal politics each senator must face as they consider their votes. Then he read the quote from a CBS story: That a Trump ally said "GOP senators were warned ... 'vote against the president and your head will be on a pike.'"

Several Republican senator murmured "not true" as soon as Schiff said it. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) shook her head and said "not true" several times. Schiff quickly tried to recover.

"I don't know if that's true. But when I read that, I was struck by the irony," Schiff said. "I hope it's not true. I hope it's not true."

“That’s not true,” Susan Collins said several times on the floor, shaking her head when Schiff cited a news report saying WH warned senators that a vote against Trump means “your head will be on a pike.” Risch also said aloud: “That’s not true.” Cotton laughed when Schiff said it

probably NOT a good look.
You're trying to sell "evidence" and "testimony" and a very strong facts based case. WHY would you start quoting from an unsourced news bite? And then quickly walk back with, "not sure if that's true .." Then why the hell are you trying to introduce it?

As soon as I read this I thought .. "blunder" .. and from a man who is generally so able and adroit!

So Murkowski and the other Republicans are butt hurt because Schiff introduced into his presentation an unsubstantiated threat from the Trump Administration against any who would vote against him. Yet, as he pointed out during his presentation, it's quite within his character to do so. So "boo hoo".

But yet these same senators, were perfectly ok with Trump extorting a foreign country through essential and necessary military aid ( Can you imagine if it were food and clothing?) to basically slime a political opponent and his son for his own benefit; to cheat (again) in a political election. Joe Biden was a colleague to all and a friend to many of these same senators who are now willing to turn a blind eye to Trump's numerous shenanigans. And the cornerstone of his campaign is how willing and well he would work with these Quislings, er Republicans.
With "friends" like these, who needs enemies? They are spineless, self serving and are totally craven. They know what Trump has done, they know that Schiff and the other House Managers speak the truth-they've said as much in private. But rather than speaking truth to power to the rabid segment of their constituencies and having the courage of their private convictions, they'll be willing to go along with this sham of a half trial.
History will hunt them down and the hottest corner of Hell will be waiting for them when they are condemned for not confronting evil when it was necessary and proper to do so. If indeed, there is a Hell, I know that I will go for at least half of the mortal sins I've committed (And they were fun) . But none will be more deserving of their fate and joining me than the majority of those Republican senators who not only would betray their country but also a friend.

all of your own accord, and not because of any coercion from mcconnell and the WH?

Or is it because when they said, “head on a pike” or “butt in a boiling lobster pot” you knew they were speaking figuratively, and really just meant to take you down on twitter, turn off the money tap, run false ads on fb against you using psychometric precision tabulated offshore for maximum impact, and/or bring up oppo research at worst possible time?

They certainly can’t go accusing you of being in the Russian money/election influence gambit, as that would bring additional heat on their very dealings. So, your “head” will be safe on that count when dealing with Moscow Mitch or Red Don’s angles. As for any past improper such dealings of your own, whether tricked, forced, or willing, you should report such through the proper channels. Your country needs you to do so, and face leniency or maybe even... immunity?

Or if you think fox news viewership constitutes the majority of the electorate, well, then, maybe you are just lost. In which case, you might keep blurting out your concern over how untrue the ABC reporting was, because they only meant your metaphorical head would be relocated to a nonexistent pointy stick. It could just be this, which allows you to bask in your smugness for being literally correct, but otherwise just plain wrong.

"Schiff recovered"???? No, he didn't, that is how he presents his argument, he throws the line and then he explains. Didn't he start by saying "I don't know if this is true, but CBS has just reported..." then he said "I hope it is not true.", and we all know that there is a 90% chance, or higher, that IT IS true and if Collins felt offended that makes our suspicions of it being true much higher. I bet Collins has not only been threatened by the con, but by Moscow-Mitch as well.

Disingenuous to say the least.

Trump: Yeah, that’s her. With the gold. I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

Bush: Whatever you want.

Trump: Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.

Bush: Uh, yeah, those legs, all I can see is the legs.

Trump: Oh, it looks good.

Bush: Come on shorty.

Trump: Ooh, nice legs, huh?

He shouldn't trust one source such as CBS news on such an inflammatory statement.
To say afterward "I don't know if that's true." is a Trump tactic and I don't think he should do that.

But on the other hand it may be that taking on Trump's immoral tactics of spreading dirty, lies by saying he doesn't know if it's true may be the only way to fight him.
