Washington state coronavirus cases top 100, including 16 deaths

Source: Q13 News Seattle

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Washington state topped 100 on Saturday, including 16 deaths.

The Washington State Department of Health says that at least 102 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Seventy-one of the cases and fifteen deaths were confirmed in King County. Most of the deaths have been linked to the Life Care nursing facility in Kirkland. The center is scheduled to hold a press conference Saturday afternoon.

The other death occurred in Snohomish County, which has 27 coronavirus cases.

Three counties in the state recently announced their first cases of COVID-19. Pierce, Clark and Kittitas counties said that the affected people were either hospitalized or in isolation. Officials in all three counties said they are working to identify people who came into close contact with those who have been diagnosed with the virus.

This is a developing story and will be updated

Either mild or no symptoms, yet can still spread it. This is why we need more testing and people who are sick need to stay home to avoid giving it to those who may have more severe issues.

The Washington State Public Health Lab confirmed the first case of a Jefferson County resident with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, on March 6, but public health officials do not believe the case represents evidence of community-level transmission on the Olympic Peninsula.

The patient is a Jefferson County man in his 60s, according to a press release from Jefferson County Public Health. He was likely exposed to the virus during a visit to a family member in Kirkland.

The man received care for coronavirus at a Seattle-area hospital. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home, according to the press release.

The man reportedly spent time in Jefferson and Clallam counties during the early stages of his illness. Potential contacts are being notified and advised about what precautions they should take, according to the press release.....

4. Can this be the more deadly strain in the two strain theory?

I wish an expert would address this. The number of deaths in WA is much higher than any other location at the moment, right?

Perhaps it’s not because of being elderly but rather that they contracted the more deadly variety???

8. We assume random distributions when they're not.

It's a nursing home, with a lot of elderly who aren't usually in the best of shape. In other words, the highest risk component of the highest risk group.

I'll wait until somebody replicates the two-strain theory analysis, instead of just saying, "Sounds right, I trust them."

If you divvy up the numbers, the January Chinese death results are amazingly bad. Easy answer: The Chinese screwed up in many ways, and it was a care issue that they finally got better. Now comes an "independent" analysis saying it wasn't that at all, it was a more virulent strain in January that accounted for the deaths. What China did is, therefore, easily put in the Trumpian "perfect" category.

..negative. We have a large college crowd so a lot of travelers from the other side of the state. Our country butts up against King county so was inevitable. Hubby and I are over 65 and Im in good shape.. hubby is having immunology treatments for cancer. Hes employed full time so out in the community all day. We are just cutting back on non essential crowded events. Washing, etc. not hoarding food or tp.........except for tequila
