Elk Grove school district cancels classes after coronavirus concerns

Source: KCRA3 Sacramento

ELK GROVE, Calif. —
The Elk Grove Unified School District announced Saturday it would be canceling classes and all student-related activities after a family from the district was quarantined after testing positive for COVID-19.

School officials will give an update on the closures at 2:45 p.m in the Elk Grove District Office on Saturday.

The district is closing schools and canceling classes and activities that were scheduled from March 7 to March 13.

No student or staff member has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the district said.

My daughter works in this school district. She received notice of this about an hour ago.

Two things: 1) There's a tweet quoted in the article saying that a family related to a student has tested positive and are in quarantine. The school district knew and kept it CONFIDENTIAL. This is happening because an internal email was leaked. No word on which school. They are just closing all elementary sschools. 2) Saying no student or staff member has tested positive is easy enough when, so far as we know, no one has been tested! Maybe they tested the student related to this family? We need more info.

went from being free of symptoms to dying all within an hours time, very scary.

stated your lungs turn into "mush" causing the infected person to lose the ability to breathe, effectively drowning in their own secretions.

But it doesn't have a whole lot to do with this story.

My husband is in the high risk category, and our daughter lives with us. I don't need to be scared more. Thanks.

It's OK. But truly, all of this is more than I need (or want) to know right now.

I'm watching local news hoping to hear more. We don't yet know if my daughter even works at the same school where the potentially exposed student attends. Until then, we are all on pins and needles.

Rather than close THAT school, they just closed them all. We are watching local news right now, hoping to learn more. I'll post if I find out more.

and a build up of fluid, less oxygen. The key is for the immune system to be strong enough to attack the virus so fast that it doesn't get to that stage. Thus, those younger, healthier survive it when others don't.

To zero in on age as a primary factor is understandable but not completely accurate. Every case should be assessed individually and consist of a broad range of health factors. We should all be vigilant in our response, regardless of age. Good luck to you, yaesu. ❤

... In a separate note, Italian intensive care doctor Giuseppe Nattino, from the Lecco province in northern Italy, has shared a clinical summary of the patients his unit has been treating, which doctors described as “frightening” in terms of what it could mean for the UK. The technical note spells out how patients with coronavirus experience a severe infection in all of their lungs, requiring major ventilation support. It also reveals the effect of the virus, which affects blood pressure, the heart, kidneys and liver with patients needing sustained treatment...

... In an alarming development, Dr Nattino said younger patients were being affected, saying the ages of patients ranged from 46 to 83 with only a small number having important underlying conditions. He added: “The last days are showing a younger population involved as if the elderly and weaker part of the population crashed early and now younger patients, having exhausted their physiological reserves, come to overcrowded, overwhelmed hospitals with little resources left.” ...
