Fauci: Americans are 'going to have to hunker down significantly more' to fight coronavirus

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday that Americans "should be prepared that they're going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing" to fight the growing COVID-19 outbreak.

Asked if the U.S. should consider a 14-day national shutdown similar to those in Europe, he said, "I would prefer as much as we possibly could ... I think we should really be overly aggressive and get criticized for over-reacting."

The United States has surpassed 2,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, though the actual number of those infected could be much larger because testing isn't yet widespread. At least 60 people have died in the U.S. due to complications from the virus.

Fauci said that the goal now is to "blunt" the curve of confirmed cases, keeping the number of those infected low enough so as to not overwhelm the U.S. hospital system. "If you let the curve get up there, then the entire society is going to be hit," he said.

years of "Pandemic War Games" the way this plays. We are still in the top of the first with 2 outs and nowhere near the REAL PANIC time. That is still coming. You need to ask your self can you survive for 3-4 months (or more) with what you got in your house?


When we see the reports of 2-3,000 dead americans A DAY, the panic gets real and we are nowhere near that. The current run on stores is a little blip. When no food is available then it gets real. By then the army will be fully mobilized, travel 100% restricted and potential rationing in place.
