Nunes walks back 'go to your local pub' comments, blames media for creating coronavirus panic

Source: USA Today

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., appeared on Fox News on Monday night and walked back previous comments where he had contradicted public health experts and encouraged Americans to “go to a local restaurant” during the coronavirus crisis.

Sunday, Nunes said, “There’s a lot of concerns with the economy here because people are scared to go out. But I will just say, one of the things you can do if you’re healthy – you and your family – it’s a great time to just go out, go to a local restaurant. Likely you can get in easily.”

"Go to your local pub," he continued.

Nunes' comments came as Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, saying people "should prepare to hunker down significantly."

However, on Monday, Nunes, who is one of President Donald Trump’s top allies in Congress, said that "media freaks don't have a clue what's going on out in the real world" regarding the outbreak, and claimed that during his Sunday Fox News appearance, he was encouraging people to do drive-thru or takeout.

Also, Pennsylvania.

But you don't "drive-thru" a freaking pub, anymore than you trust a freaking syllable spilling out of mouth of Nunes.

Well, back in the 90's I worked at a liquor store that had a drive-thru window. I worked the window most days but when I was there it was only for package liquor - although you could buy anything we had in the store which included plastic cups and mixers and ice so I would bet there was some drink mixing going on just off property (we ran off anyone that tried to stop on our property after purchasing anything).

In the 70s there was a lounge attached to the store (the building was still there but we just used it for storage space when I was there) and people could go through the drive through and order mixed drinks.

that he wasn't considered "important enough to have gotten the memo" with the revised talking points. Like Mulvaney, he's considered "damaged goods" (having been "publicly" caught red-handed during the impeachment hearings) and will soon be able to check out a bus exhaust system up close and personal!

Meanwhile in a county that is in his district -

They do it all the time. They are fundamentally irresponsible. Never stand up to show any integrity whatsoever.

Kinda sucks to be a phony who is dumping on classic virtues, like honor, and then claiming to be a Republican "conservative." Hah! What utter hypocritical horseshit. No wonder no one trusts them.

We can all hear exactly what he said Sunday on Fox News of all places. No one distorted anything. The problem is he didn't know the White House was about to change the messaging.

Leave it to Sean Hannity to help him wash his hands of this. If he doesn't get a check from the RNC, he's being shortchanged.

and your cheatin' ears did not, no way, no how, hear him says the words he said.

Maybe his ignorant fans believe that toddler-level lie, but his amateurish effort to walk back his disinformation that would put people at risk was pathetic. And he's such a political snake that he even put his own kids at risk by using them as crisis actors to prop up his anti-public health views.
