Evictions stop in NY because of coronavirus pandemic: If you were there Monday, you stay, judge says

Source: Syracuse Post Standard

“How is someone supposed to find housing. We can’t even find toilet paper,” said State Supreme Court Justice James Murphy. He is the head judge for the Fifth Judicial District of New York, which includes Syracuse and Onondaga County.

...“Where ever someone was at 9 a.m. Monday is where they will stay,” Murphy said. Syracuse Housing Court had stopped evictions last week.

It’s also why McTurtle’s dream is to stack them with as many far right ideologues as he can find.

shutoffs for nonpayment of gas and electricity. Because we have so many companies, though, not all people are safe yet from shutoff. Just looked, we have about 3300 companies; 200 big ones service about 72% of Americans and most of those have. Regulators in some regions and about 20 states so far are mandating various forms of suspension. Similar actions for water, phone, internet etc done or in the works.

Just checked both our companies serving rural southern areas, hasn't happened yet, but I'm guessing the inevitable waves of distressed customers haven't shown yet.

Not just for the people who might be evicted, because my pregnant niece is a tenants’ rights lawyer in NYC. I was really worried about her having to go in to court all the time.

If you lost your job because of the current events, i get it. But is the judge going to tell banks not to punish landlords who cant make THEIR payments? I doubt it.
Glad I dont live in NY

covid-19 related non payments. They said you better have hella documentation.

This is gong to be a nightmare for everyone. $2000 a month won’t pay your rent in the Bay Area.

Many people, maybe even a majority, won’t be able to make a living in the next few months. People need relief.
