Health authorities in New South Wales have confirmed Australia's eighth coronavirus death — a female passenger in her 70s who had been on the Ruby Princess cruise ship and died in hospital this morning.

There have been 133 diagnosed cases of COVID-19 aboard the Ruby Princess, which docked in Sydney last week.

2,700 passengers were allowed to disembark without being tested for the coronavirus

Coronavirus: How did Australia's Ruby Princess cruise debacle happen?

... Almost 2,700 passengers - some coughing and spluttering - were allowed to leave the ship at Sydney Harbour, catching trains, buses and even overseas flights to get home.

More than 50 people from the cruise have now tested positive, making it the biggest single source of infections in Australia.

It's since been reported that the ship's previous voyage had noted 158 sick passengers onboard.

The saga has caused much anger: why was the ship allowed to dock and unload people?
