Matt Gaetz: It's unfair for Richard Burr to keep seat when Katie Hill resigned

Source: NY Post

Rep. Matt Gaetz slammed fellow Republican Sen. Richard Burr this week, calling it unfair for him to keep his Senate seat after “screwing all Americans” when he “dumped” stocks ahead of the coronavirus pandemic, while former Rep. Katie Hill was pushed out over a consensual affair with a campaign aide.

“@KatieHill4CA gets run out of Congress for screwing a campaign staffer absent any complaint,” Gaetz (R-Florida) tweeted Monday afternoon.

“@SenatorBurr stays as Intelligence Chairman after screwing all Americans by falsely reassuring us w opeds on #COVID while he dumped his stock portfolio early. This is not fair,” he added.

The Florida Republican was referring to the scandal surrounding Burr’s sale of $1.7 million in publicly traded stocks just one week before the market crashed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Between Republicans and Democrats, which is why many progressives feel like they are bargaining chips in this state.

Ask Gaetz to create a campaign to push all 5 out. Let's see what he does then.

Rule says he gets replaced by another republican. Democratic governor but republicans changed the law so that the democratic governor can only pick from a list of three preselected candidates by the republicans.

I think this whole thing is a strategic opportunity for trump.

Trump didn’t want loefler either, in Georgia. He wanted someone else.

Gaetz is a sleazy asshole for going there. He couldn't just criticize Burr and leave it at that. No, he had to dredge up a Democratic congresswoman's personal indiscretion, something that affected no one and for which she quickly resigned, and equate it to violating the public trust, insider trading and failing to warn constituents of a deadly virus.

There must be an angle. Maybe if they sacrifice Burr (which wouldn't be a sacrifice as Trump doesn't like him and he would be replaced by a Republican) they can take their "virtue" to go after Feinstein (who doesn't look so cut and dried that she did something wrong).

Burr’s Senate Intel Committee did clearly establish in a Report that Russia interfered in the 2016 Election to help Trump. This is enough for Trump and his cult members to want to replace him.

"Let's get Mattie to do it". They must want Burr out really bad - they got this stupid schmuck to bring up indiscretions? Yes, it sounds like a reasonable argument, but having coke / drunk boy Mattie bringing up indiscretions? Is he that solid in his district? Or are they looking to replace this schmoe with a more "reputable", non-cartoon character Nazi?

Its my understanding that they voted themselves to be exempted from normal insider trading rules years ago. I wonder if he was around to vote on that, and if so how he voted.
