Donald Trump demands his own signature be on coronavirus stimulus checks to every American: report
Source: raw story
Published 7 hours ago on March 27, 2020
On Friday, President Donald Trump signed into law a record $2 trillion stimulus bill to help those suffering from the coronavirus pandemic part of which involves one-time cash payments being sent out to tens of millions of American households.
But according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump wants those checks to be sent out explicitly in his name.
Mr. Trump has told people he wants his signature to appear on the direct payment checks that will go out to many Americans in the coming weeks, according to an administration official, wrote Siobhan Hughes and Natalie Andrews. Normally, a civil servant the disbursing officer for the payment center would sign federal checks, said Don Hammond, a former senior Treasury Department official.
...............................
Trumps name has already appeared on the recent CDC mailers giving information about COVID-19. And according to Maggie Haberman of The New York Times, the president reportedly also wanted to appear in public service ads discussing the opioid crisis.

The money his "kids" have charged taxpayers for their travels on business and pleasure and SS protection. The entire useless family has taken so much cash from the treasury, that Mnuchin will not let anyone see the expense accounts. He wants to wait until AFTER the next election. It would be like his taxes, never see the light of day. We are being flim-flamed by a bunch of CROOKS.

(128,907 posts)Bingo!
(of course most people get direct deposit so it's moot - I do still request a paper check for refunds because I prefer to decide which bank account I might want to put it in at the time of receipt - although I do get a federal CSRS annuity direct-deposited so will see if they decide to use that instead)

(10,904 posts)But despite promises that the one-time funds will be distributed "within the next three weeks," it will likely be months before the stimulus checks hit bank accounts according to experts.
Under the plan, single people earning incomes below $75,000 will receive as much as $1,200 as "direct payments into most people's deposit accounts," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said at a news briefing on Wednesday.
Married couples would get $2,400, and parents would receive $500 for each child under age 17. About 90 percent of households approximately 165 million would benefit from the checks, according to the Tax Policy Center.
... "I don't think physical checks will be in the mail for another three to four months," Pomerleau said, citing delays in the system in 2008 when the government last issued national stimulus payments under the George W. Bush administration.

Some more info in my words:
It says the IRS will be handling this, and so people who have given direct deposit information to the IRS will likely see the money first.
Janet Holtzblatt, a senior fellow at the Tax Policy Center, suspects the IRS's infrastructure, or lack thereof, will create even more delays ... In the past it has taken several months for the government to develop, test and install the kind of software necessary to launch a rebate program
But the IRS has been closing down some service-critical missionsincluding return processingand closing some facilities in response to states' stay-at-home orders.
And all this on top of their tax return processing season.
Progree reminder: federal tax returns aren't due until July 15, likewise payments for taxes due April 15 are now due July 15. But I think estimated tax payments due April 15 are still due April 15.

Not every check issued by the US Government is signed by the Secretary of the Treasury or even by an employee of the Treasury Department. Individuals throughout the government are designated as NTDOs: Non-Treasury Disbursing Officers. If the Office of the President isn't already so designated, the Secretary of the Treasury probably can make that designation with the stroke of a pen.

Which is okay, because, even if it were a thimble full of water and I were crawling across a vast desert on my belly, I would immediately donate my allotment to some sort of verifiable non-profit relief organization on principle.
I glad to hear there's one benefit in not receiving a check. I don't have to see Donald Trump's pompous scrawl on anything I've had to pay for.

I asked if they were going to take the biggest socialism payout in US history, since they've been screaming about Bernie for the past 6 months. Free government money doesn't get more "socialist" for them.
I especially loved it when they realized all those Mexican and Somali immigrants would be getting it too. More, in fact, since they typically have bigger families.
