Acting secretary of the Navy has submitted his resignation
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN)Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly has submitted his resignation a day after leaked audio revealed he called the ousted commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt "stupid" in an address to the ship's crew, according to a US official and a former senior military official.
The Navy and Department of Defense did not respond to a request for comment.
On Monday, Modly told the crew of the Roosevelt that their former commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, was either "too naive or too stupid" to be in command or that he intentionally leaked a memo to the media, in which Crozier warned about coronavirus spreading aboard the aircraft carrier and urged action to save his sailors, according to remarks obtained by CNN.
Late Monday night, Modly apologized in a statement for calling Crozier "stupid" in his earlier remarks.
"Let me be clear, I do not think Captain Brett Crozier is naive nor stupid. I think, and always believed him to be the opposite," Modly said in his statement. "We pick our carrier commanding officers with great care. Captain Crozier is smart and passionate. I believe, precisely because he is not naive and stupid, that he sent his alarming email with the intention of getting it into the public domain in an effort to draw public attention to the situation on his ship. I apologize for any confusion this choice of words may have caused."

Acting Navy secretary Thomas Modly resigned one day after he prompted a firestorm by traveling to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an aircraft carrier docked in Guam on which crew members are afflicted with the novel coronavirus, and assailed the character of the ships former captain.

It boggles my mind, however, that a Navy cabinet officer (sort of) can badmouth the captain of a capital ship. Even in the modern Navy that can't always steer that well or slips on maintenance, they don't usually give aircraft carriers to idiots. And if they do, nobody, NOBODY up the line badmouths that officer in front of his troops/sailors. And a civilian defense undersecretary who once wore the uniform should damn well know that.
Busting your captain and then calling him an idiot in front of the sailors who respect him is one hell of a way to blow morale all to hell.

Discipline in private; praise in public.
Criticizing the commander of a unit in front of the people he led is absolutely wrong, and this asshole deserves every bit of the hatred he claims to be on the receiving end of.
Appalling conduct, especially from a graduate of the the US Naval Academy.

I doubt Crozier will get his command back, he embarrassed Dummy and that is simply not something anyone can be forgiven.
I just wonder which utterly loyal, incompetent boob he's going to make the next "acting," Eric comes to mind.
