Harry and Meghan tell UK tabloids they will no longer deal with them
Source: The Guardian UK
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have told the editors of British tabloid newspapers that they will never again deal with their outlets, in an unprecedented direct attack on a large part of the media that leaves little chance of repairing the relationship.
On Sunday night Prince Harry and Meghan sent a letter to the editors of the Sun, Daily Mail, Mirror and Express saying that from now on they would not respond to any inquiries from journalists working for the outlets. Instead there will be a policy of zero engagement, except when necessary through the couples lawyers.
In a strongly worded attack, the duke and duchess said they refused to offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion and accused the outlets of running stories that are distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason.
The move is designed to signal to the wider public not to trust any of the reporting about the couple carried by British tabloids.

Bravo! About time some notable people put a firm foot down. This couple just wants a normal life.
Article says they've relocated to California after their stay in Canada

It was a very positive story.

That "News" they insist on having in their network name is going to bite them on the ass.
The gutter press in the US (Enquirer et al.) has been successfully sued so many times that they're a little more gunshy than the English gutter press. They can still expect to have unflattering pictures on the front page to sell the shit inside, but that's tame compared to what they faced in the UK.

It neither breaks your leg nor picks your pocket, as Thomas Jefferson would have said.

(4,429 posts)They aren't looking to lead private lives, they want to lead public ones - where they can 'reclaim' their right to a narrative of their choice - and cash in on it. (jmo, of course)

(33,345 posts)the tabloid narrative, particularly to megan markle, has been toxic. anyone would want to push back against slander.
harry doesn't really need money, so how venal their "cashing in" is TBD.

More power to them. Lies, fantasy, and distortion are a poor mix with journalism that is unworthy of the Fourth Estate. A free and open society deserves better.

(12,504 posts)Harry is righteously pissed because the paparazzi-like gossip magazines, along with the paparazzi themselves, are ultimately responsible for killing his mother.
This chase-the-stars-in-their-car mentality for the money shot photo, was always an accident waiting to happen, and this particular chase put a drunk chauffeur behind the wheel killing everyone.
Morgan now gets his jollies cutting Harry and his wife to shreds in the British press. If I was Harry, I'd get Morgan alone in a dark alley and read him the riot act that if he ever writes or says one more bad word about my wife, he will get a fat lip and maybe some tooth loss. British press six.
