Wisconsin Gov. Says State is 'Wild West' After Stay-at-Home Order Ruling
Source: MSN
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said the state was the "Wild West" on Wednesday night after the Wisconsin Supreme Court blocked an extension of his stay-at-home order.
The Democratic state leader told MSNBC that judges had created "chaos" in Wisconsin by voting 4-3 against the extension of state lockdown measures until May 26. Wisconsin Supreme Court judges ruled on Wednesday that his stay-at-home extension was "unlawful, invalid and unenforceable."
The governor warned that there was "nothing compelling anyone to do anything" in Wisconsin as the novel coronavirus continued to spread across the U.S.
Speaking to MSNBC last night, Gov. Evers said: "It was four members of the court who made a decision that wasn't based on statute, precedents, or the facts, unfortunately."

Well, now the Wisconsin Supreme Court has blood on its hands by ruling based on hypotheticals, rather than current facts. The interesting thing is that Wisconsin legislature sued when the Governor was just acting based on the statutes on the books. The Legislature could have always changed the law, but Republicans did not want to. They just wanted to posture for the reopen crowd and make the Governor the bad guy. Unfortunately, the Wisconsin Supreme Court bought into the argument.

(3,283 posts)They spend hundreds of thousands of lobby dollars buying right wing politicians to do their bidding. This is their payback.
It also helps the county coffers as a good deal of revenue comes from drunk drivers. Let the games begin.

(17,536 posts)a self-correcting problem. I am with you, I don't give a damn what my Republican governor or my state Supreme Court does, I am hunkering down until the medical issue resolves itself.
I think that there ruling was very political and short-sighted and that it will come back to bite the people of the state in the ass.
Families will suffer along with the idiots but the smart ones will stay home and survive, the stupid will get sick and die a painful death like Ron White says " You Can't Fix Stupid" But there will be less of them

(6,931 posts)Sure the subways are open WITH lot's of restrictions, that wasn't the case when his top health official was telling the masses to jump on and all is well in mid-March. My point is De Blaiso pulled a Trump and blew the whole thing off like Trump until he (or his handlers) realized how bad it was getting.
He was saying all is well a couple of weeks after Trump called it all a hoax at that Nazi rally in late Feb. Guess he believed Trump.
WI is not NYC. We don't have the population density. Outside of the SE counties and Green Bay, the COVID has had a relatively small impact.

(694 posts)with their own power. They are not going to let some democrat from the state capitol dictate life saving measures on them. You can generally tell party affiliation here by mask wearing. About half of the people in the grocery store wear masks. This is going to be one bizarre, dangerous year. Practice your best self care methods.

(17,231 posts)coronavirus, aren't they supposed to protect and serve the public? They appear to only be serving "R" politicans. Wonder if they could be sued and removed from office over this? Anyone know if any of the people who caught the virus by voting in person died as a result? That alone should be basis for a wrongful death suit.

(8,510 posts)These fuckers went to court to block Evers' plan. Now they are waiting for him to come up with a new one. All the while they were in court, they claimed they already had their own.
Remember in school how the rich kids bullied others to do their homework? Yeah, it's kind of like that.
Evers called them into several special sessions after they high-tailed it out of town in February. They refused and left him to deal with it, took him to court on everything to shut it down.
Maybe it's time for the plan to be giving them lots and lots of rope. Let the fuckers hang themselves.

(2,584 posts)Governor shouldn't do anything, get on tv and tell everyone that the republicans now need to come
up with a plan to solve any issues that arise. Push the court decision down their throats and any
one else that wanted no restrictions. If they start complaining, and I know he can't, say you got what you asked for now you fend for your problems. If they didn't want to have a free for all opening
then take care of them.

(48 posts)In northern Wisconsin, most of those folks go to Duluth, Mn, 3 hospitals for care. There is only a small VA hospital in Superior--even most of the vets go to St. Paul for their care. Minnesota is not going to be thrilled to have to accept all those people from Wisconsin, it's going to overwhelm their hospitals and health care workers. Wisconsin's health care system is shitty to begin with. Minnesota will get stuck subsidizing all those Wisconsin covid patients. Duluth is my hometown, so this pisses me off even though I don't live there anymore.
I did volunteer work for Democrat candidates in Wisconsin because I live on the border in Illinois. I want to see those GOP'rs run out on a rail.
One bright spot though, most of those knuckle dragging, non mask wearers will bear the brunt of getting sick/dying. less GOP voters.
