Federal Child Porn Charges Filed Against Former Miami Mayor's Aide Rene Pedrosa

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A former aide to the mayor of Miami, who is accused of sending a naked photo to a minor and then groping that teen at Miami City Hall, no longer faces state charges. Instead, Rene Pedrosa now faces federal child pornography charges.
State prosecutors dropped their case due to the federal charges filed in March.
The federal charges include producing child pornography, receiving child pornography and enticing a minor into sexual activity.
Pedrosa, who was a high-profile spokesman for Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and a longtime reporter for a Miami Spanish-language television station, was arrested in February.
Miami police say he met his victim on social media and invited him to his office for a job interview. The arrest report says Pedrosa kissed and fondled the victim during that meeting. He is also accused of sending him lewd pictures and asking for pictures in return.

HARRISBURG -- An aide to a McCandless state senator known for her tough stance on sex crimes was arrested late Thursday on accusations he propositioned a 15-year-old over the Internet.
In a series of instant messages and online chats, Alan David Berlin, 40, of Carlisle, discussed dressing up in animal costumes and engaging in various sex acts with the boy, the state attorney general's office said yesterday.
His boss, state Sen. Jane Orie, said she was "shocked and appalled" Thursday when she learned of the charges and immediately suspended Mr. Berlin without pay or benefits. She fired him yesterday.
According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Berlin proposed traveling to the boy's home in Harrisburg, about 20 miles from Carlisle, and having sex in the backyard and in a shed on his parents' property. He also allegedly offered to arrange a meeting in a hotel room so Mr. Berlin could take photos of the boy and another adult having sex.

John McCain aide, Jeffrey Claude Bartleson, has been arrested for raping children following a nationwide investigation into elite pedophile rings.
Bartleson, who was John McCain’s presidential campaign manager, was arrested for molesting numerous young boys.
According to the head of the Police Department’s special victims unit, Sgt. Brett Wilson, the arrest is part of a large operation involving breaking up child trafficking and pedophile networks in the United States.

Because of the active nature of the investigation, Wilson said he couldn’t detail the allegations.
However, in affidavits filed by police investigators in Pueblo District Court, authorities say that the most recent complaints follow a pattMoern involving Bartleson that dates to 1982.
According to Detective Daniel Anderson, Bartleson has usually positioned himself so he is around children, whether as a Scout master, as a sponsor of the chemical-dependency unit at Pueblo’s Parkview Medical Center, at his church or simply by inviting children to spend the night at his home.
In June 2003, then-Rep. Scott McInnis praised Bartleson in a tribute at the U.S. House of Representatives.

The former head of the Christian County Republican Party was sentenced to five years in prison today for child molestation.
Royce M. Fessenden pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree child molestation and one count of second degree statutory sodomy in October of last year.
Special Prosecutor Robert Lewis says that Fessenden molested a relative once a week from the mid 1990's until 2001. The little girl was nine when the abuse started and seventeen when it ended.
The abuse, which wasn't reported to police until 2006, created quite the quagmire for Christian County Prosecutor Ron Cleek and Judge Mark Orr who both recused themselves from the case as Fessenden had actively campaigned for both elected officials.

PLATTSBURGH — Former north country politician Chris Ortloff is getting out of prison Friday according to a Federal Bureau of Prisons online inmate database.
Ortloff, full name George Christian Ortloff, 72, was sentenced to 12 and-a-half years in federal prison back in August of 2010 for charges related to him attempting to set up a sexual encounter with 11- and 12-year-old girls in 2008.
He is currently serving time in Federal Correctional Institution Danbury, a low-security federal prison in Danbury, Conn.
The “girls” were actually fictitious, made up by investigators involved in a sting operation that culminated in Ortloff’s 2008 arrest at a motel near Albany where he thought he would be meeting up with the underage individuals.

A part-time aide to New York State Sen. Serphin R. Maltese has surrendered to federal authorities after being charged with possessing child pornography.
ALBANY (AP) -- A part-time aide to New York State Sen. Serphin R. Maltese has surrendered to federal authorities after being charged with possessing child pornography.
A spokeswoman for the Queens senator says the aide, Robert R. Groezinger of Putnam County, was fired after turning himself in Wednesday to investigators.
Manhattan federal prosecutors say Groezinger had received more than 25 sexually explicit images of children over the Internet. His attorney, Vincent L. Briccetti, told The New York Times that his client is “a highly respected attorney.”

On December 21, 2009, he was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 57 months, followed by five years of supervised release, and directed to pay an assessment fee of $100.
