President Jair Bolsonaro unveiled rules Wednesday expanding the prescription of chloroquine

RIO DE JANEIRO — President Jair Bolsonaro unveiled rules Wednesday expanding the prescription of chloroquine, the predecessor of an anti-malaria drug promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump, for coronavirus patients despite a lack of clinical proof that it is effective.

Chloroquine was already being used in Brazil for COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized in serious condition, and under the new regulations, it can be given to people with lighter symptoms such as abdominal pain, cough or fever, according to the Health Ministry.

“There is still no scientific evidence, but it is being monitored and used in Brazil and worldwide,” Bolsonaro, who has likened the virus to a “little flu” and feuded with local governments over their stay-at-home measures, said via his official Facebook page. “We are at war: ‘Worse than being defeated is the shame of not having fought.'”

. . .

Bolsonaro, a conservative populist and nationalist, has long expressed admiration for Trump and enthusiasm for chloroquine. Brazil’s new guidelines were approved by interim Health Minister Gen. Eduardo Pazuello, who had no health experience prior to becoming the ministry’s No. 2 official in April.

Just did a search for "Brazilian Limbaugh" and got a name, then looked for the image.

I've heard of this guy! What a jerk! I didn't know he broadcasts in the U.S.!

Olavo de Carvalho.

Look at one of his U.S. American friends:

With Bolsonaro, and one of Bolsonaro's sons, on the right side.

Thanks for giving us the chance to see this all is far closer to us than we realized! Does it remind you of Hillary's statement from a long time ago about a "vast right-wing conspiracy?" Sure reminds me!

6. thanks for the extras. bannon. media really needs to get a clue and start following

the leads, which i think will lead to putin too.

recently i caught the last part of a caller to the sub for limbaugh - apparentlly she was in health care and knew a lot of others who were taking hydrochloroquine..... we know they use paid callers. she could be in russia.

brazil is ideally suited for rw radio propaganda, with widely dispersed populations

it's a form of incompetence and political malpractice for so many in media and politics to keep ignoring talk radio for the dominant role it has played and is playing in this disaster.

it would be really tragic for limbaugh to croak without getting due credit for the covid and global warming death and destruction - and a lot of other fascist crap. imo the radio ad industry is going to have to make major adjustments and to needs to be forced to democratize the monopoly that was built around him.

4. It's Trumpy-boy's international scam with Argentina.

How many other countries are in on the chloroquine scam?

They're prescribing a drug that they know has no medical value for a variety of syndromes in which the drug has no documental effect? So a drug, made by a company in which the Trump's and/or their business partners invested money, is sold to the pharmaceutical industries in at least two very large countries. People are making immense amounts of money in this drug business, pushing a drug that has no value for all but a handful of conditions, is being sold to treat gobs more, but has no discernible effect. It's as good as a sugar pill for most people. Oh. It can suddenly kill at prescribed doses (for one malady), and maybe with lower doses. But death is always somewhere near the horizon, isn't it?

So the Trumpy-boy, ever on the lookout for other ways to kill people, has come across the virus, AND a drug! So he's pushing both. You know this. He's pushing both.

Are we on to his game yet? Killing is his game. Watch him talk about the deaths from the virus. We know already that he doesn't care, has no empathy, on and on. What we fail to grasp is that it all has real consequences. Death. The reason that he delayed his response was that it's not part of his brand to be compassionate. And if Donnie is anything, he's faithful to his brand.

So he is killing people to protect his brand. He's killing with the virus, and he's killing with a false medication that he's suggesting that people take, with the secondary objective of which is to make money. That will be his legacy. That is what has been said, and will be said, by nearly all biographers and novelists about Trumpy's wreck of a presidency.

Today's Quinnipiac poll was a marker of sorts. Assuming that most subsequent poll will yield similar results, Trump at 39% to Biden's 50 is a shocker in a good way. For some time, I thought that when Trumpy-boy gets below 40, Republicans will start to jump ship, especially if the 39% is sustained for a two week period. If Trumpy-boy keeps it up with an outrage a day, he'll drive more people away. It will be difficult to watch, but worth the wait.

The situation in Brazil is beyond sad and heartbreaking. It's pure decimation of a people, of land, of dignity, of refuge and safety. Everyone and every living thing has been destroyed while the chaos of another idiot-in-charge has been distracting on one end and raping everyone on the other. Everything no one wanted to happen is happening while they die and get sick and desperate.
This is the playbook of the jackass we know too well.
