[North Dakota] Gov. Burgum fights back tears at daily press conference talking about wearing masks

Source: Grand Forks Herald

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum fought back tears at Friday's press conference as he asked the state's residents to be empathetic about wearing masks.

Burgum pleaded with residents to not look at wearing masks as an ideological issue.

"I would really love to see in North Dakota that we could just skip this thing that other parts of the nation are going through, where they are creating a divide either ideological or political or something around mask versus no mask," Burgum said. "This is a, I would say, senseless dividing line and I would ask people to try to dial up your empathy and your understanding."

Burgum got emotional as he continued.

It is fairly simple. If you can count to 10 and know the alphabet. You need a mask.

Why would you not wear a mask if you have the ability to do so? If you somehow can't get any kind of face covering or if you have some condition that makes it difficult, I'd understand. If you just don't want to - that really should be a litmus test.

when I'm in a group closer than 6 feet apart.

My town is increasingly compliant within the grocery stores for example. Outdoors and walking the trails less so, although when I've walked everyone has given a wide berth if we needed to pass another person on the trail. Many have their mask with them to put on if they need to.

There was an interesting video I saw by a doctor recording under the name ZdoggMD on Masks and Moral Choice. YouTube and Facebook. Very interesting and surprising.

Hell fine people $50 for not wearing one in public for being a menace to society. It's a real shame a public health problem has evolved into a "D" vs "R" problem and we can thank dumpie and his loyalists for that. Only good that's going to come out of this is that more repubs will be buried than Democrats. So ladies & gentlemen.......STOP TALKING TO YOUR REPUBLICAN NEIGHBORS, COWORKERS, ETC and stay safe.

By the way, Nancy's daughter never came out.

And ... my understanding is that this governor supports all of Trump's other crazy policies on COVID.
Sorry, I don't have much empathy for a politician like Burgum who wants it bot ways now.
