White House goes on lockdown after protest erupts nearby

Source: The Hill

The White House went into lockdown on Friday night as protests over the death of George Floyd raged nearby, according to reporters who said they were in the building at the time. NBC News White House correspondent Peter Alexander said on Twitter that he was on lockdown inside the building as protests raged in the building's vicinity.

Photos show demonstrators gathering in Lafayette Park just outside the White House. The Secret Service announced via Twitter that it is helping law enforcement agencies during the protests at Lafayette Park. They encouraged the public to "remain peaceful."

One video shows a man with a bandana around his neck spray-painting "F--k Trump" onto Freedman's Bank Building, which is adjacent to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

The Hill has reached out to the White House and Secret Service for comment.

Reminds me of a well-known anecdote about Idi Amin (the former head of state whom Trump arguably most resembles).

When the Israeli Defense Forces famously stormed the airport at Entebbe in 1976, to free the mostly Jewish passengers held hostage there, Amin was in bed (in a threesome, it was said).

When a guard came in to inform him of the incident, he reportedly hid in a closet - for fear that it was actually a coup in progress.

10. There are a lot of young people with nothing left to lose, and that's dangerous.

They've seen their life and furture turned upside down by Trump's botched Covid-19 response. No job. No school. No money. No prospects for the future. And the racism just adds lethal insult to injury. They're exploding.
