CINCINNATI (AP) The University of Cincinnati is removing Marge Schotts name from its baseball stadium and a library archive in light of her racist comments while owner of the Cincinnati Reds.
The schools board of trustees unanimously approved the move Tuesday, a dozen days after a Catholic high school also decided to remove references to Schott from its facilities. Over the years, UC students, faculty at alumni have objected to Schotts name on school facilities, but no changes were made.
Marge Schotts record of racism and bigotry stands at stark odds with our universitys core commitment to dignity, equity and inclusion, said school President Neville G. Pinto, who recommended the change.
The national push for racial justice sparked by George Floyds death has prompted local institutions to revisit Schotts history.

is a CONDITION by the donor for making the donation, not a reward.

(117 posts)I had no idea who she was until I lived in NYC in the early 90s and heard Billy West impersonate her on the Howard Stern Show. Its parody, and makes fun of her for being a virulent racist. But its extremely vulgar.

(117 posts)I remember moving to NYC in 1990 and hearing this on the radio. Billy West also did bits impersonating former UN Secretary Kurt Waldheim, who was outed as a Nazi war criminal and died a pariah. While some might find the language offensive, I think it was none-too-subtle derision and really made a point about how warped Schott and Waldheim were.
