SYLVANIA, Ga. (AP) A Georgia judge has denied bond for a former Georgia State Patrol trooper accused of murder in the August shooting death of a 60-year-old Black man who refused to stop for a broken tail light.
Screven County Judge F. Gates Peed on Friday ruled that it "would be inappropriate to grant bond at the moment for Jacob Gordon Thompson, given the facts of the case.
Thompson, who is white, briefly chased Julian Lewis on Aug. 7 before forcing Lewis car into a ditch and fatally shooting Lewis in the head.
Thompson wrote in his incident report that he feared for his life and fired one shot when Lewis revved his engine and turned his steering wheel as if he wanted to ram the trooper.

The Magistrate
(95,258 posts)That is simply something they are trained to say, like 'stop resisting', to make themselves look in the right.

(1,836 posts)Who have been shot, run down and assaulted this year I sure do.
Fear alone isnt enough though, it needs to be coupled with reasonable judgment- and thats what was missing here.

(95,258 posts)Loggers, fishermen, airline cockpit crew, roofers, garbagemen, truckers, agricultural workers, 'high iron' workers, construction and landscape foremen, all face far greater risk of death on the job, as high as nearly 100 per hundred thousand for loggers, and from the middle ranges fifty per hundred thousand for roofers and twenty-five per hundred thousand for agricultural workers.
The most basic difference is police are encouraged to self-pity and resentment, and enjoy whining and whinging.

Out of the 100 police deaths in 2013, 31 were shot, 11 were struck by a vehicle, 2 were stabbed, and 1 died in a "bomb-related incident." Other causes of death were: aircraft accident (1), automobile accident (28), motorcycle accident (4), falling (6), drowning (2), electrocution (1), and job-related illness (13).
Police deaths run about 10 per hundred thousand, and this includes auto accidents and suicides. Just plain men between fifteen and forty-five are victims of homicide at a rate of eighteen or nineteen per hundred thousand.

(296 posts)Had a "REASONABLE" reason to flee...."death by cops"! But more importantly, Trump thinks cop don't need special training!

He claims the man was getting in the car to possibly attack the trooper, but there is no proof of that.
None. But this fellow may see a whole lot of jail time that he never expected. And I hope that the
jury finds him guilty, and the judge gives him a .....whole lot of jail time..
